What's The 'Target Run' Video? The Guy Who Filmed Himself Running An Errand And Posted It To TikTok Explained
This week, a guy went viral because he posted a TikTok video of himself which documented his "Target run." After the "Target run" video spread to Twitter / X, people began cracking jokes, mostly about him setting up his tripod so many times.
Overall, the memes, discourse and reactions to the "Target Run" video allude to a widespread distaste for so-called "day in the life" video content. The TikToker does have some supporters, though, who think that his video was a worthwhile affair. However, his opposition is just as loud.
So, who is the TikToker in the "Target Run" video and why is the internet reacting so negatively towards him? Let's explain.
What's The Original 'Target Run' Video On TikTok?
The original video was posted by a TikToker named @drewwalls10 earlier this month. In the video, he films everything he did when shopping at Target, including footage of him getting dressed and parking his car beforehand.
The roughly 30-second-long video reveals that he set up a tripod multiple times to film himself, likely adding a half hour or so to his actual trip. That means that he theoretically got out of his car, set up his tripod, filmed himself parking and then retrieved his camera. He seemingly did this with every task documented in the TikTok, including him cashing out at the cash register.

What Are People Saying About The 'Target Run' Video On Twitter?
The video was reposted to Twitter / X about a week and a half after its original upload. The Twitter user who reposted the video relayed his take on the TikTok, questioning if the man had a "social media dopamine addiction."
social media dopamine addiction has grown men posting like female teenagers brohomie said he’s going on a “target run” and filmed it all, tripod in the checkout line and everything 🤣 pic.twitter.com/6Xuolve1Lx

The viral post on X inspired many to post reactions and memes to the "Target run" video. Many echoed the hilarious idea that the man was setting up his tripod for every shot. In turn, many believed that the effort put into the video was unnecessary because filming something as simple as a run to Target seemed pointless.
Others chose to focus on the expressions of the Target employees, specifically the lady at the cash register who, at one point, looked directly into the camera. Many liked to imagine her reaction to seeing him setting up his tripod.
However, while many criticized the man, others defended him, claiming that his content could "pay his rent." In accordance with these opinions, the man's vlogging lifestyle could lead to a lucrative income, so, he might as well keep it up.
What Is A 'Day In The Life' Vlog?
A "day in the life" vlog is a genre of online video content in which an influencer films the events of their day in sequential order and posts it to social media. The video is usually meant to show how exciting or normal their day is.
Over the past year, the internet has been exposed to a slew of "Day In the Life" style videos, resulting in parodies of the format that humorously criticize the content.
The "Target run" video is essentially a "Day In the Life" video, in that the TikToker documented the tasks of his day's biggest event: grocery shopping.
