The "Target Run" Video refers to a viral video of a Black man filming himself going on a trip to Target to buy groceries and other items, setting up his tripod to capture multiple parts of his journey like parking, shopping and checking out. The video gained reactions and discourse on Twitter / X in October 2023. However, the "Target Run" video was originally posted to TikTok by user @drewwalls10. Overall, the video gained criticism regarding social media addiction, evident in the man filming the seemingly unnecessary Day In the Life video that documented a simple task, chore or errand.

Origin

On October 8th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @drewwalls10 posted a video that had the caption "Target runs ✌🏽" and it documented him running an errand at Target, involving him showering, getting dressed, driving and parking at Target, shopping and then checking out. @drewwalls10 filmed the entire chore by apparently setting up a tripod at various, public locations. On TikTok, the video received roughly 342,600 plays and 7,000 likes in 12 days (shown below).

After the video was posted to TikTok, it received minimal engagement and discourse. The TikTok gained most of its attention when it was reposted by X^[2] user @nickrgrs on October 18th, 2023, who captioned it, "social media dopamine addiction has grown men posting like female teenagers bro / homie said he’s going on a 'target run' and filmed it all, tripod in the checkout line and everything 🤣." Over the course of two days, the tweet received roughly 40.8 million views and 66,400 likes (shown below).

Viral replies and quote retweets of the aforementioned post surfaced on X in the days following. For instance, on October 18th, 2023, X^[3] user @ayeejuju quoted the post, saying, "what happened to men?" gaining roughly 43,500 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also on October 18th, X^[4] user @FreeGjr wondered how he didn't feel like a "loser doing this," gaining roughly 51,600 likes in two days (shown below, right).

While many expressed criticism, others relayed more positive comments. For instance, on October 18th, 2023, X^[5] user @sh6rky quoted the post, writing, "Unpopular opinion: this type of content be paying folks rent; so anyone hating is trimmmmmm," gaining roughly 7,500 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also, in the comment section of the original TikTok,^[1] users flocking from the discourse on Twitter / X posted positive and supportive reactions (shown below, right).

Going into October 2023, the video continued to gain viral discourse and reactions on X.^[6] Also, TikTokers started to post greenscreen videos that addressed the drama, such as TikToker^[7] @trvpforever on October 19th, 2023, whose video received roughly 958,500 plays and 144,500 likes in a day (shown below).
