A TikTok user's casual photo post inspired a cross-fandom Redraw trend this past week, with people tracing over TikToker @lilsleepyjp's post to draw different characters mimicking their pose.

The image showed two young Black boys standing on a pavement in a dimly lit street with one boy gesturing with his hands. To his right, his friend is standing with his hands by his sides and his head lowered, the whites in his eyes glowing like crescent moons even as the rest of his face is shrouded in darkness.

The unexpectedly cinematic lighting in the photo stands in contrast to the lighthearted caption given to the image by TikToker @lilsleepyjp, who jokingly wrote, why dis 🥷🏿 look so mad 😭😭😭. The post inspired internet artists to redraw the image in the form of their favorite characters, always while using an appropriately relevant emoji. Here's a recap of the Redraw meme.

Where Did The Original Image Come From?

The earliest known post of the "why dis 🥷🏿 look so mad 😭" image was a TikTok slideshow by @lilsleepyjp posted on July 27th, 2024. Over four days, the post received roughly 265,600 plays and 56,800 likes.

How Did 'Why Dis 🥷🏿 Look So Mad' Become A Meme?

The image was reposted to the X (formerly Twitter) account @funnyhoodvidss with people quote tweeting the post to share their own fan art of the image. The first known redraw was shared by X user @Kx1T0_ who drew Jujutsu Kaisen characters over @lilsleepyjp's image. Soon after, X user @ZaLantwrn shared art featuring characters from Zenless Zone Zero.

What Are Some More 'Why This (Emoji) Look So Mad Memes?

More fan art inspired by @lilsleepyjp's post began to appear online in early August 2024, often with the "Ninja" emoji traded for a similarly relevant one.
