Who Is 'Fiddlebert' And Is He Real? The Lost Green 'Pikmin' Character Explained
Fans of the puzzle and strategy game Pikmin are having a raucous discussion about a so-called "forgotten" character from the original 2001 Pikmin game. The green-colored character seems to be a simple yet perplexingly green copy of the player character Captain Olimar and is by all accounts entirely made up.
But fans of the Pikmin games have created their own mythos behind the green man they have dubbed as "Fiddlebert," and all credit for the hoax goes to a Redditor named /u/Cabbage-426. Here's everything you need to know about where Fiddlebert came from, and how he grew to be a popular meme around the Pikmin 4 fandom.
Where Does 'Fiddlebert' Come From?
'Fiddlebert' is an internet hoax created by Redditor /u/Cabbage-426 ahead of the release of the fourth edition of the Pikmin franchise. In late June 2023, the user posted a spoofed image showing Captain Olimar and a green companion in the original 2001 game.
The image was captioned, "I'm really curious to see what any other gamecube players thought of him, I feel like he's not very talked about on here for whatever reason."
But /u/Cabbage-426 did not stop there; in the replies to his post, the Redditor engaged in a serious-sounding conversation with other Pikmin fans where he expressed that he thought Fiddlebert was made in bad taste and was better suited as an antagonist due to his anti-Semitic tendencies. He conceded, however, that Fiddlebert's Lithuanian accent was at times humorous.
How Did Fiddlebert Become A Meme?
Various other Pikmin fans joined in on the joke about Fiddlebert and started making memes and fanart about him. These memes often proposed different aspects of Fiddlebert's persona, and asked important questions like, "Is there a lore reason why Fiddlebert only uses white Pikmin?"
Other users melded reality with meme to further confuse the unaware layman Pikmin fan, posting an image of the neon green GameCube Pikmin CD saying, "If Fiddlebert 'Isn’t real' Explain This."
