Most people would agree that it is a bad idea to name your child after a pop culture character. For one, if the character has a very fantastical name, it likely opens up the child to a lifetime of bullying from kids named John and Meghan or something more traditional. It's even trickier if the piece of pop culture is still ongoing; recently, parents who named their child Daenerys before season 8 of Game of Thrones came out had to deal with the fact they'd made an error akin to naming your child "Anakin" if you'd only seen The Phantom Menace.

Yesterday, one couple seemed ready to make a particularly outrageous christening when they took to Reddit's /r/AmITheAsshole to ask if naming their child "Captain-Phasma" after the Star Wars sequels character.

"My wife and I are huge fans of the Star Wars movies," wrote the Papa to be. "We met while camping out for the premiere of The Force Awakens."

"Our friends think we are a bit nutty but have always respected it until my wife got pregnant and we shared the name we wanted when we found out we are having a girl," he continued. "Captain-Phasma. The whole name, like Mary-Kate."

He then described his friends' jaws dropping. The rationale, he said, was that due to the fact he and his wife were both bullied as kids, they wanted to give their daughter a name that would have other kids in awe of her. He also noted that Captain-Phasma was played by Gwendolyn Christie, best known for playing Brienne on Game of Thrones. When other people suggested naming the child Brienne instead, the poster noted that Game of Thrones was a sore subject for him because his wife watched the show behind his back.

The response to the post features many people begging the poster to reconsider. It also made it to Twitter where people were agog at the idea.

The poster later came back to update the post saying that the feedback had given him and his wife some important perspective.

"We are definitely leaning towards Captain-Phasma as the middle name with possibly Gwendolyn as the first game if not Maz," he wrote. For the sake of the unborn child, let's hope that's true.
