reactions and reviews for Resident Evil 3 remake

Resident Evil 3 Remake Launches Today, And People Are Stoked

It's been a little over a year since Capcom shocked gamers with its highly-acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake, and just over 3 months since the company shocked the world again with news a Resident Evil 3 Remake was just around the corner.

Today, the Resident Evil 3 remake launched with huge shoes to fill. While the original Resident Evil 3 was well-received, it never quite achieved the legendary status its predecessor and successor had. This seems reflected in the early reviews for the remake, which are a bit more muted than the universal praise for the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Writing in Wired, critic Julie Muncy wrote of the original game, "it's an experimental but mostly familiar title, as much a side game as a main entry in the series," and concluded the remake's attempt to bridge the gap between the Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 4 makes the game feel too action-oriented and linear. The Guardian, giving Resident Evil 3 four stars, wrote, "it doesn’t feel quite as groundbreaking, or as meaty, as Resident Evil 2."

While critics appear to be enjoying the game but not as much as its predecessor, on social media, fans are already gobbling up the remake with a fair amount of both praise and memes.

Of course, people found that a video game about a fast-spreading, deadly disease seemed particularly appropriate for the time.
