Scene Of New Yorkers Rescuing Woman Trapped Under SUV Is New York In A Nutshell
If you're not from there, New York City can seem like the weirdest place in the world. On Sunday, a New York miracle was captured on video when a crowd of strangers helped dislodge a woman from under an SUV. The incident was filmed by none other than Literally Media's Colby Droscher, the editor in chief of the iconic websites eBaum’s World, Cracked and Cheezburger.
Just now at Delancey and Norfolk in the Lower East Side an accident ran over a pedestrian trapping them under an SUV. Onlookers just lifted the SUV, dragging the victim out. pic.twitter.com/uq1IHcSJ9k

The woman, later identified as Veronika, was crossing the street in the Lower East Side when she was run over by an SUV driver, pinning her beneath the car. A crowd of bystanders quickly rushed to her aid, lifting the SUV and dragging her out to safety.
The video went viral, having been viewed over 4.4 million times and widely shared on Twitter. For many, it represented a brilliant moment of humanity coming together for a greater cause.

This right here is a more accurate distillation of how the average person will perform in a disaster than any apocalypse movie you might care to name https://t.co/svERqbvrKW

I only lived in NYC briefly, but there was nothing I found to be less true than the "rude New Yorker" stereotype. Consistently I was surprised at the kindness and generosity of strangers on the street, more than I've found probably anywhere else I've lived. https://t.co/rKhJxFhx01

Others saw the "New York-ness" of it all, particularly in the way the makeshift emergency squad immediately dispersed and went about their day once their deed was done.
How New York is this : You can see at least two muhfuggers ain’t even get off their PHONES. It’s multi racial multi gender, multi ability . And once somebody shouts “ Dey Out Dey Out” these fools FACTUALLY dust their hands off and LEAVE . https://t.co/S2yTrJ1LP7

A woman get run over / trapped under an SUV. A bunch of random strangers run over, lift the car up, free the woman (who is apparently txting), and then everyone just kind of goes back to what they were doing. This feels very NYC. https://t.co/0KZXCcafVO

Veronika escaped the incident with no broken bones and is in recovery. Droscher caught another image of the incident showing her on her phone while she was attended to by firefighter personnel.

Because of the story's happy ending, the image was ripe for jokes.

To put a bow on the whole story, the SUV driver left the incident with a ticket from the police. That's New York for you.
