The Internet Debates: Should We Even Have An April Fools Day This Year?

Existence being a completely hellish nightmare right now has not exactly been a good thing for comedy. The current global pandemic, not to mention intense social distancing measures and wave of bad celebrity musical numbers, has left people anxious and afraid.

The ordeal has left people wondering what to do with April Fool's Day this year. Traditionally, people and brands will use April Fools to pull off a goofy stunt or some kind of prank, but plenty folks are abstaining this year. Google, usually one of the cleverest pranksters on April Fools, has foregone the holiday, and many brands have followed suit. CNN writer AJ Willingham practically ordered her readers to not participate, writing, "Let's take this opportunity to clarify something: April Fools' Day pranks are not funny right now. Don't do them."

The sentiment had been shared widely on Twitter ahead of today.

Others, meanwhile, are aching for some levity.

While we respect both sides of the debate, it's important to note we turned ourselves into a freakin' pickle. It's the funniest goddamn shit in the world.
