Cleansing The Feed: Five TikTok Accounts That Don't Suck
TikTok gets a lot of hate, and it's not surprising. To an outsider looking in, TikTok looks like nothing but dancing videos, teenage drama and people mindlessly performing trends for a chance at clout. Admittedly, that is a big part of the platform. However, behind that cringe-riddled exterior lies something much more interesting.
In the inner core of TikTok, below the multi-million-follower influencers and amateur dancers, lies the type of content you might find floating around Vine at its peak or on the "weird side" of YouTube today. Content that defies sense and sanity, or simply offers something different and more interesting than the usual fare. Content creators that aren't trying to be another TikTok trend follower twerking to top 40 bangers. By interacting with the accounts below, you can begin curating your TikTok algorithm to stop it from sending you all those annoying dances and trends and start seeing the best side of the platform.
Prodbeef and Skittlez69_
The first thing you're likely to notice about Prodbeef and SkittleZz is the atrocious quality of their videos. Using an assortment of filters to purposely destroy the quality of their videos, Beef and Skittlez are effectively producing the video equivalent of the Gangster SpongeBob meme. The two are frequent collaborators, and their content goes hand in hand.

On their pages, you'll see wannabe gangsters hanging out in the traphouse, showing off their "trap phones" and gangster artwork shirts with pride, making a mockery out of the latest trends (example below, left) and taking part in the most tense sport of all time — the "durag race" (below, right). With just over 60,000 followers between the two accounts, these boys have started to amass an eager cult following on TikTok.

Galvin.gang
Galvin is a bit of an underground celebrity on TikTok. He's without a doubt the drippiest pocket monkey out there, constantly adorned in the dopest fits and most exclusive streetwear on the market. You could say he puts the "beast" in "hypebeast" … if you'll allow the terrible joke. There are quite a few Galvin accounts out there, but Galvin.Gang is one of the most popular with over 63,000 followers and a consistent stream of new content.

In reality, Galvin content comes from the YouTube account ewsell, which seems to own multiple pocket monkeys and loves dressing them up. Galvin accounts take this footage and add sounds, filters and effects to them to take them to over-blinged, mock try-hard status — tactics similarly used on dank meme pages across Instagram. The joke gets old after a while, but the monkey videos are always welcome, and having a little Galvin in your TikTok algorithm will do wonders for your "For You" page.

4baadiMh01, Alexcitgo and Husseinahmad231
Like Beef and SkittleZz, 4baadiMh01, Alexcitgo, and Husseinahmad231 go hand in hand for effectively starting a genre on TikTok. On these accounts, you'll see what happens when convenience store owners get bored and hungry for views at work. Essentially what you've got here are prank videos filmed from the perspective of convenience store cashiers as they mess with their customers, who often don't take it too kindly. In one popular continuing series, the convenience store owners call their male customers "cutie" or "sweetie" after a purchase and film the reaction, resulting in a lot of mixed reactions.

Yes, it's prank content, and yes, it's a bit of a douchey move on the cashier's part, but that doesn't stop the content from being shamefully entertaining. Most of the content is ultimately harmless (at least for the victims of the pranks) and a lot of the victims end up getting a kick out of it. Following these accounts really helps break the monotony of your For You page. If you're looking for some guilty pleasure prank content that's a little different than the norm, look no further.

Thetiktoktimecapsule
If you want to add a bit of class to your algorithm, give Thetiktoktimecapsule a browse. As the name suggests, this account posts a selection of random videos from history with a little context in the caption. No extended commentary, no BS, just one-minute videos of random old-timey footage and historical moments.

At its core, this account is nothing groundbreaking or new. It's just reposted historical footage, after all. However, the way the content is presented, the choice of footage and the fact that it's on TikTok, a platform that seems to defy education by default, makes this a great follow for anyone looking to train their algorithm.

Kentai.haven
Inarguably the biggest account on this list, Kentai.haven shot up the TikTok charts this year, gaining over 2 million followers in four months on the platform. His breakout series began in November when he responded to a TikToker challenging viewers to guess her height. Using objects around the room and measuring them against pixels in the video, Kentai managed to accurately guess her height and has now made a TikTok career out of repeating that process.

Kentai is riding the wave right now with the height game, getting big views on each subsequent video in the series thanks to his sense of humor, his amazing success rate and his detailed videos that show off the insane math that goes into measuring someone through TikTok. This dude is blowing up for a reason and proves there are original ideas that aren't dance-related coming out of the platform.
