Two memes from _Solar Opposites_.

Top TV Memes: The Best Meme Formats From 'Solar Opposites'

Solar Opposites is a two-season program from Hulu. Whatever you expected it to be, it's not that. There are two plots taking place at the same time — first, a group of aliens has crash-landed on Earth with the intention of terraforming it to be their new home planet. At the same time, one of the alien children shrinks down all the people who annoy him and inadvertently creates an entire politically tumultuous society within his wall. Needless to say, there's a lot going on here, and lots of jokes have been created about it within the fandom.

Starring Justin Roiland as Korvo, it's not surprising that this show had a lot in common with Rick and Morty, including an identical animation style. Even its protagonist resembles Rick in personality and mannerisms. Since the writing of Roiland is known for leading to hundreds of different meme formats from numerous TV shows, the only reason this one hasn't taken off in the same way is because of the fewer Hulu viewers who have given the show a chance instead of watching Rick Cronenberg a planet again. Here are some of the best episodes of Solar Opposites for memes.

Girl:l can't believe you didn't cry in Titanic! Do you have emotion? Have you ever cried? Me: hulu

This episode is essentially a mockery of Boomer humor, which is a comedic philosophy of the older generation that can be summarized with simply, "wife bad." Terry and Korvo create a robotic wife to hate them over their man cave so they can feel more fulfilled about having it to themselves. They then learn to appreciate her bad behavior and invite her into the man cave, which results in a casual killing spree. All of this is juxtaposed with the story of Jessie trying as hard as she can to experience sexism, but failing. In essence, this episode is so politically incorrect (and it knows it) that it flips its own meaning backward, and you don’t know what you’re watching, how it passed the pitch meeting or if Rick Sanchez is going to appear with a portal gun and whisk you into South Park.

Another reason this episode is notable is for its inclusion of a neon sign purchased for the man cave, a giant eggplant branded with the words "Dig Old Bicks," which neither of the men can figure out the meaning of. This has been joked about within the community and even sold as merch. At the same time, there are a number of memes floating around about Terry being treated like a baby by his robotic wife, or about the obvious misunderstanding of what a "cold one" is.

Most Meme Potential: Season 1, Episode 1: "The Matter Transfer Array"

This episode is the start of the series, and it instantly establishes itself as similar to Rick and Morty by using one of Korvo’s inventions to create a deranged creature meant to assuage his and Terry’s (voiced by Thomas Middleditch) loneliness. Unaware that television is make-believe, they handle their frustrations by bringing children’s character Funbucket to life. When the Funbucket gets sick of them and moves on to new friends, they create a malformed Funbucket 2, which eventually merges with the original Funbucket and destroys the surrounding town.

The reason this is so popular in the meme community is because of its abrupt jump into twisted plotlines, with the miserably deformed conjoined Funbucket suffering due to the jealousy of Korvo and Terry, while one of the alien children named Yumyulack (voiced by Sean Giambrone) kidnaps a school bully and subjects her to torture and a DIY lobotomy. The internet loves dark memes, and there’s a lot to choose from with this episode if you’re looking to scare someone into watching this show via meme.
