Super Mario Maker 2 Unleashed a Whole New Set of Sadistic Levels

The concept of Super Mario Maker is simple: using an approximation of the tools available to Nintendo developers in the 80s and 90s, players can create their own Super Mario levels and share them with the community. Of course, because the internet is the way it is, the community immediately launched into an arms race to create the most sadistic levels possible. The game was one of Nintendo's biggest successes for the much-maligned Wii U, selling roughly 4 million units, but it left an indelible mark on YouTube, where it became one of the most popular titles for Let's Players, who would try their hands at the hardest levels and inevitably lose their freakin' minds.

With the release of Super Mario Maker 2 the Mario-making sadist community has picked up exactly where it left off, abusing the game's mechanics to create levels that would be more appropriate for a Saw film than a family-friendly community-driven video game. The first one to gain viral traction comes from Mario Maker god YTSunny who created this hell gauntlet:

This technically-possible abomination has quickly turned into a small meme on Twitter, as people have used it with captions describing difficult situations.

But of course, YTSunny isn't the only evil bastard with a Nintendo Switch and a thirst for misery. Several other Mario Maker demon levels have begun going viral (2s

And another by Twitter user @RyanGilleece:

And of course, a Game Grumps adventure through a course created by Jirard the Completionist.

Mario Maker is back, and with it, hundreds of more opportunities for humans to show just how sadistic they can be.
