It's taken us a few weeks, but we finally managed to have a week where the memes are normal, apolitical and from different corners of the internet. A pleasing week where it's simply about the memes and the niche knowledge that comes with them.

The biggest memes of the past week came from a TikTok trend, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid format, and a simple Instagram pic that went viral. This type of pure variety seems harder to come by lately, so here's hoping it indicates an upward trend in memes coming from multiple sources this year.

Piece Control Kyle

Piece Control Kyle is a character made as an amalgamation of stereotypical professional gamers, namely Fortnite ones. The character was originally meant as a parody in a skit, but as many memes about them spread, it soon became the actual streaming persona of the creator, Mi1k_w. The TikToks themselves are very creative and spread through a lot of other social platforms, though unfortunately, it isn't versatile for others to add onto, with the best example being a Fortnite game clip that then cuts to Piece Control Kyle for the meme.

Four Lads In Jeans

Four Lads In Jeans is a classic in the sense that a seemingly normal and unassuming picture gets picked up for memes and the community runs with it for unexplainable reasons. Though the picture in question had been swirling around in smaller circles throughout 2020, it wasn't until recently that it got attention from the public at large. The main examples of memes made using this picture are of how the British lads seem ready to have a fun time out. This is primarily done through adding text to either fake a caption or a social media post that has the picture attached. Some varieties of the meme involve superimposing other images over on top of various lads.

I'm Not Gay, Greg

I'm Not Gay, Greg is another in the long list of Diary of a Wimpy Kid memes that have been popping up in the last few years. This particular meme, for instance, was first posted back in 2018 but had to wait close to three years for its recognition. In this meme format, the character Rowley yells at Greg that he is not gay, then leaves the scene. The following panels then show Greg crying at this news. The format itself has been adapted to have Rowley say a number of different things to hurt Greg, as well as having a general sense of memeing in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid format about Rowley not being gay.
