Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a popular children's novel series written and illustrated by Jeff Kinney that depicts the diary of Greg Heffley, a middle-school student.
History
In 2004, Diary of a Wimpy Kid first appeared in installments on the youth education site FunBrain.[1] The first hardcover was released on April 1, 2007. Since then eleven more books have been published: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (February 1st, 2008), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw (January 13th, 2009), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (October 12th, 2009), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth (November 9th, 2010), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever (November 15th, 2011), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel (November 13th, 2012), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck (November 5th, 2013), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (November 4th, 2014), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School (November 3rd, 2015), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down (November 1st, 2016), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway (November 7th, 2017), The Meltdown, the thirteen book in the series is due to be released on October 30th, 2018.
The book series has been awarded many honors including Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Favorite Book, ALA Notable Book, and #1 New York Times Best Seller for 114 weeks.
Movie Series
On March 19th, 2010, the first movie adaptation directed by Thor Freudenthal was released staring Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, and Devon Bostick. Several more film adaptations followed: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011),Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012), and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul (2017).

On February 12th, 2018 the subbreddit r/LodedDiper "dedicated exclusively to inappropriate edits of and memes from Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was created.[2]
