So, who here has played a moba before? Well, incase you haven't, here are a few examples for games that are Mobas:
League of Legends
Dota 2
Heroes of the Storm
and my personal favorite, SMITE
Now, do you know what these have in common? Like, down to the very fabric existence that no one ever compares them to? Not a single on of them have a fan made champion/hero/god in them whatsoever. And I am not talking about cosmetic items or anything, I mean the playable characters that GET the cosmetic items, yep, not one of them gets the honor of having the first fan made non-skin related concept put in game. It's quite sad really, and I do have my fair experience with making Concepts for SMITE (click here for all I've done in the smite department) and have done some dabiling in the LoL champ concepts, but they aren't liked as much, those people are way too pick IMO, but nevertheless, click here to see my LoL Champion Concepts
But I am getting off track, I have wondered why, not only mine, but any of the concepts have yet to be put ingame? But then it hit me, a solo project isn't as impressive as say, a bunch of people focusing on one thing. And I then I thought for fun we could possible work together (teamwork I know!), and possibly get a solid concept working and then share it with the world (or at the least the moba community). All we need to do is a few things:
1. Pick the moba, certain mobas like Dota have more leniency to what kind of heroes can be in their game, meanwhile games like Smite have to have the gods be based off of actual mythological gods. So first step first is picking which one to put the character in.
2. Role, the typical classes for a Moba character's choices are like this:
Mage: Squishy, deals magical damage, usually ranged
Tank: Is mean to go in head first and eat all the damage for the team, mainly melee
Assassin: Squishy, deals physical damage, almost always melee
Fighter: Think half tank, half assassin, can deal damage, but is expect to grab something to make them beefy, melee and deals physical damage for the most part
Marksman: Focuses on using their basic attacks to take down specific targets, but is also squishy themselves, ranged and deals physical damage.
Support: Focus less on attacking and more on helping their teamates with buffs, heals, and whatnot, this class usually is sub-class part of either the tank or mage classes.
3. Design, basically speaking is what the character is going to look like, I can handle this no problem, but if any other artist on here that wants to help wants to, feel free. No need to worry about 3d models, I got a guy for that on the Smite Forums who does that anyways.
4. Skill Set, in every moba except for Heroes of the Storm, they follow a skill set like this:
Passive β You can't control this, but it helps you in some sorta of aspect
3 Skills β These skills are default abilities, using them causes a set thing to happen and puts it on cooldown
Ultimate Skill β The strongest ability a Moba Character has to boast, it's their most devastating ability, but usually has the highest cost and cooldown.
5. Personality β It's one thing to see a character, but how much do we really know about them? For Smite it's pretty easy, just have to restate their mythological purpose and move on. But with LoL and Dota you get more chances for the creative juices to flow. This step can be interchangeable with step 3 or 4, depending on the scenario.
6. Name and Title β This may be the most simplest one and should be put above step 2 since it'll be easier than the rest, but mehβ¦
7. Advertise β Once it's done, we advertise the hell out of it, sharing it wherever it is necessary and getting massive amounts of fans and support to the point it reaches the game developers ears.
Together, I am certain we can do it⦠Just need to work together here folks, so feel free to spit out ideas, even the most absurd idea can be used in some sorta of way, and it's better than nothing.
Welp folks, lets begin!
