This one is hard to describe. But I'll make a quick example to make it somewhat easier to understand.

Fallout for instance, it has been set with a 50's aesthetic throughout its entirety. What we were to say swap the 50's with 80's instead? Rather than the fight for natural resources, it was the Cold War that's responsible for dropping all the atom bombs?

I got few ideas:

• New Nuka Cola are now more prevalent as Nuka Cola Classic is more rare and sought out by the wastelanders.
• The punk scene has gotten more out of hand with each genre of punk becoming its own tribe.
• RobCo now has competition with a ingame equivalent to Apple taking over the computer market.
• Music would probably be more diverse with the inclusion of synth and the emergence of rap that was happening at the time.
• Neon lights now replace fins in the cityscapes and PIP-Boy displays.
• Mister Gutsy's are now sporting a look similar to that of the Terminator/RoboCop.

These are just a few examples I could think of.

Let’s replace Pokemon’s aesthetics with that of Earthbound by having new and weird pokemon.

We get regional variations of starters like either a Grass/Electric variant of the Squirtle line, Fire/Ice Tepig Line, and Water/Steel Chespin line.

An Electric/Dragon variant of the Pichu line directly caused by mutation from Ultra Wormholes

More Pokemon based on fictional characters like a pokemon that starts out as a hybrid of Sora from Kingdom Hearts and Buster Bunny that eventually becomes a fusion of Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny then it’s final form is half Popeye, half Mickey and half bugs. Either it’s a starter pokemon or a pseudo legendary

Fire emblem, but with a JoJo aesthetic.
