I'm sure he 'quit' because he knew he was going to die soon. He has been sick for quite a while now. He probably wanted to help the company adjust to a new CEO before he took the permanent leave.

I know that he has been sick, but I still couldn't get over the fact that he's dead.

Oh… wow… I didn't expect him to kick the bucket this soon… Does anything say how he died? Im assumeing it's his cancer.

(Maybe he will have a case of Zombie Cancer and come back… painfully awkward laugh)

He beat the cancer then had a liver transplant. I think it was from the liver transplant.

Well actually, February of this year it was confirmed he was receiving threatment for cancer again. It wasn't said what type of cancer, but it was rumored to be terminal. Experts said he had six weeks. But since it's October now, I can't guarantee how much is true.

Despite having a staunch dislike of Macs, I've never had any disrespect for Jobs. He was, one must admit, the most influential inventor of the new millennium and an equally successful businessman. He put immense passion into everything he produced, and it's easy to see if you look hard enough.

I'm gonna miss him.

I've never gotten an iPod. I'm never getting an iPad. I now have an Android phone. And I'm still running Windows after all these years.

But I have had experience with the classic Mac OS, and have found that there is digital life with only one mouse button. I even plan on incorporating Mac OS X into my computing experience either through my current laptop or a MacBook later on. I've picked up an iPod and played around with it (especially the games) and am still impressed with the fluidity and efficiency of the click wheel and the interface. I'm still deciding on whether to get an iPod Nano or an iPod Touch. I've been amazed at what an iPhone can do, and that's not even counting the App Store. And although I still will never buy one, I even see now that the iPad was viable, and that there was quite a healthy demand for what it could do. I wondered why he had stepped down, but it now makes perfect sense.

The digital age we're in would not be possible without the innovations of this man. God rest your soul, Mr. Jobs.

Sounding like norsehorse89, the only apple gadget I had was a previously owned ipod shuffle that I had for about 4 months. Never had or liked the iTouch, iPhone, iPad, or Macs, or even bought anything from the iTunes store. Thought I could live without any Apple gadget or program.

I did not even talked to him to say he was a great guy or mentor.

What truly saddens me is the fact that another human being will not see another day. What could happen the next day? The announcement of the definitive cure for AIDs or cancer? The solution of the depleting petroleum problem? A day without war in the world? The zombie apocalypse? Not even one sunrise again? Not being able to breath the air after a rainy day? Not being able to be with your loved ones?

But today, his death reminded me about our lives. He was one of the human beings who made this world as it is now. That is the reason I give my condolences and post a "may his soul rest in peace".

he died of Pancreatic Cancer
it's a painful way to die, NOT something Steve deserved.
It;s because of him we can play Angry Birds (and other APPS)

I for one, who's not a fan of Steve Jobs, i got a tremendous amount of respect for him, had it not been for him the Touchscreen market wouldn't be as it is today, would we have all those awesome apps we got now without him? Possible, but i doubt such.
While preferring Microsoft over Apple i always wanted to see both sides of the stories, always wanted to see progress of both, it was Steve Jobs and Bill Gates who kept this competition alive, and in competitions people try their best and that's what Jobs did all this time, that's why i have this enormous amount of respect for him, may Steve Jobs rest in peace.

Am I the only one who wasn't surprised to hear about his death? He's been ill for years.
I think Steve was really innovative, and I admit that his products were really good, even if they were expensive…
But also, I think we need to see that just because he's dead doesn't mean he was completely heavenly and perfect. He invented cool stuff sure, but he wasn't exactly a hero. His products are all fine and dandy but what did he do with the profit? I read that he ended all of Apple's philanthropic activities in 1997. It might be the wrong time to say this, but this whole thing of acting as if Jesus has just died is just plain silly. He was only human.
