I've got a question for discussion.

As far as entertainment goes, Pony is pretty damn vanilla. Episodes consist of friends banning together in an idyllic and colorful world to solve menial problems (barring the occasional chaos god, bug rapist, and Elderitch horror mind you)

So…why does fanwork have such a heavy concentration of sadfics, angst, gore, and porn? How is it that so many will watch a happy pony ep and think to themselves "Damn, that was great, it makes me write a fanfic. I know! I'll write a story about how Twilight Sparkle has a friend die, gets raped, and then gets raped again by her dead friend."

Why is that connection made?

IMO I think it's because some of the fans still believe this show is one of the deepest most mature show ever. Not going to lie, I love the show but it IS a show made for little girls and made well enough that non little girls can watch it but I admit it deals with some mature themes, but not as mature as some people see it. I saw a guy on IMDb that seriously hopes they're going to make an episode based off of Fluttershy's parental/school yard abuse (And of course the picture he posts saying 'I hope they make it look a little like this' and shows a picture of filly Fluttershy with black eyes, a bloody nose and having the feathers of her wings ripped out by school bullies o__O) because the show is mature enough to handle it.

Then of course there are the people who just don't want to write happyfics/are just fans of grimdark and forced feels and all that shit and don't want to write a generic happyfic involving My Little Pony.

Those are just my thoughts on the whole grimdark/sadfic/forced feels fanfics. I don't really care for them myself, you know it's just that reading these stories where Fluttershy gets raped and beaten to death or Twilicorn (thank god these fanfics have been proven false) has to watch her friends grow old and die (or before Twilicorn it was Spike who had to watch everyone die of old age).

@Grimdark stuff and sadfics

It stems a lot from people being horrible. Very rarely does anything bad happen with significant consequence in-show, so a happy, innocent world populated by friendly talking horses is a ripe opportunity for corruption. These kinds of things hit home much harder when they happen to happy and innocent people, so the show certainly provides an environment for much more emotional impact (even when you disregard how worryingly attached certain people become to these characters).

I guess from my perspective this mostly applies to sadfics, since I generally shy away from grimdark stuff. Yes, I could see sad things happening in Equestria, but it'd take a lot of work to convince me to suspend disbelief enough to have Celestia and Luna wage brutal, bloody and merciless civil war.

Now, shipfics on the other hand…

>le shipping faec

@Darkfiction

I think we (as a group, myself obviously not included) tend to write sad/clop/grimfics for 4 reasons:

Demographics – Teens and early twenties tend toward the "dark and edgy."

Feels – We love feels. And it's easier to get people to cry sad than cry happy.

Exposure – It takes a completely different type of genius to bring the magic of friendship to life (like they do on the show) and we're not used to reading that. We read dystopian futures, heavy sci-fi, and sexualized fantasy. You can't write what you don't know.

Medium – It's not easy to get the hnnnnngggg from reading how cute a pony is. Writing delves into deep thought and perspective, but doesn't have the visual happiness appeal. You'll notice that while much ponyfiction is really dark, most of the pony comics are silly, lighthearted, and cutesy.

I would also like to bring up another alicorn pony princess that has been shown in the series:

This princess apparently lived a long time ago, and she hasn’t ever been mentioned since. Again, this doesn’t really prove anything, but it seems pretty unlikely that she’s still around considering we’ve never heard of her.

Well, here's a radical idea: the princess in the book eventually became Queen Chrysalis.

Having consumed the love poison, the prince and princess were too busy with each other to notice their kingdom crumbling around them. Presumably, by the time the court mages figured out the antidote, it was already too late to save the two lovestruck fools. So they were left behind when the rest of the populace ran from the raging dragon.

The prince met his end, whether by dragon, starvation or shorter lifespan, leaving the princess bereft of the object of her affections. But the poison still demanded that she find love, so she began taking it from others. Being magical in nature, affecting a creature of magic, the poison eventually twisted her into a changeling.

Those whose love she consumed became like her, vampiric shape-shifters, and thus the changeling brood was born.

Of course, that's all just speculation, but I think it's a fairly reasonable theory.

Damn, now that's a theory. I think I'll give Brownmane a…

@Thread Title: Everybody cool your tits. I suggest five more titles to pick from.

1. "A Fistful of Alicorn"

2. "Final Equestrination"

3. "Bass Cannons Everywhere"

4. "Also Humans"

5. "Is Accualy Chrysalis"

And if you don't like any of those suggestions… THE BOOGEYMAN IS COMIN' TO GETCHA!

@verbose

I had forgotten how much I liked semehammer's work.

@fifths about disturbing fanfics

It may be the same reason why I like putting vulgar things in RPG maker so much – for the fun that comes from doing what isn't intended to be done with the material you've acquired. but mostly I think a lot of those kinds of fanfics come to be out of some desire for attention through shocking people.

Also I heard ticket master aired in Japan recently.

Let's now talk about…

What I want to know is how horses exist in this world inhabited by ponies. Do they live in another land, presumably Saddle Arabia? I've only seen horses three times in this show (the mice who turn into horses, the Windigos, and the Saddle Arabians), and it doesn't explain why they're there in the first place. Perhaps they are an endangered species in Equestria… and everywhere else.

Dirty Horse peasant race.

/argument

No seriously, it's clear through canon that there exist multiple continents within/outside Equestria. Like Zecora is a zebra, the Saddle Arabians are horses. If you have to translate it to our world, you have African (Zebras), Arabian/Middle East (Horsies), and Causcasian/White (Ponu). This will obviously clash with some headcanons (Twilight being black-type headcanons), but from an equestrian point of view simply makes sense.

World map based, you have Equestria (North America), Saddle Arabia (Middle East), and wherever Zecora came from (Africa). Sea Ponies are from Atlantis. Buffaloe can be seen as Native Americans and therefore fall within North America, which makes the regular pony actually from Europe through immigration (and explains the presence of various European nations in Equestria). Similar to how people from different continents here commonly look differently, the same applies to MLP.

The mice-horsies and windigos are the effect of magic/conflict, and therefore fall outside this spectrum. Mice-horsies can't be explained in any way but science going too far (magic over there), you can look at the windigos as Inuit if you want.

@RandomMan

That's pretty much how I think of them. Sadly, cows and donkeys no longer have a discernible land or culture of their own, if they ever did to begin with.

And then there's mules, half-breeds that can't get a break even in the ponyverse.

More places can still be discovered, Donkeys can have a continent of their own if the creators demand so. If they can go outside of the horse/pony class (they're basically the same) and add Zebras, they can probably use Donkeys as well through them looking like horsies like zebras do. With cows being kept like other animals, I don't think we'll be seeing Cowland within the show.

Ahem.

I'm going to take a quick break from the regular posting/replying to say one thing:

That is all.

The doctor called. They said… they said there's not much we can do… but wait.

Also, xTSGx, I didn't say that sad or grim stories weren't or couldn't be interesting, just that a good deal of them are cheap plays to feels.

And in my headcanon, the Arabian horses are the ruling nobility, a very small minority of the population entirely confined to Saddle Arabia.

Speaking of bear traps, you reminded me of one of Fluttershy's best animal friends…
ear_S2E3.png!
Seriously, she's friends with a bear! I believe his name is Harry (or they just made it up for an excuse). You know how metal that is? As metal as…

According to science, we can conclude that Scootaloo is actually Chrysalis.

You have discovered her terrible secret!

Unimpeded by further attempts at espionage, she will now embark on a rampage of unimaginable horror!
…
Aw, who are we kidding?
Queen Scootaloo loves all of her subjects!

@Dark Fiction
I think that trying to say that people who write and/or enjoy darker pony stuff are just horrible people in general is too much of a simplification to the point that it can't be true.
Sure, some people are out there just writing the most abominable crap imaginable for the sake of infamy and shock value.
Many more though, even if I don't particularly like it myself, are genuinely trying to tell stories that they believe are interesting.
Yes, Equestria as presented in the show is largely an idyllic utopia where all problems are temporary and relatively minor but that isn't a very accurate representation of our reality.
Some people want to explore what happens to these almost-sickeningly happy characters when they are faced with some of the horror we experience in everyday life: death, injury, crime, war, ect.
Again, I'm not a fan of this type of stuff myself, but I can at least see where some people would be.

@Love Poison Theory
I actually remember hearing that idea a while back and I still like it.
It's fun when seemingly unrelated elements of a universe can be converged to tell a story like that.

As long as we are discussing odd theories of the origins of Chrysalis, I actually stumbled across a funny one just last night that came about from a pretty harsh (but admittedly fair) criticism of A Canterlot Wedding.
(All queued up below, but the entire review is an interesting watch is you are into that kind of analysis and it adds a little more context to this reveal.)

So yeah, one way to shore up a number of unexplained occurrences and plot holes of the wedding episode (primarily the fact that Chrysalis disguised herself as Cadance to sneak into Canterlot to bring down the shield that would not have been there in the first place had she not made a threat against the city) is to make Chrysalis, Luna, and Nightmare Moon all on and the same!
Luna is actually evil; always has been and still is.
The elements did not 'cure' her; she is only pretending to be reformed in order to live amongst the other ponies until she finds a new time to strike.
Luna used her shape-shifting abilities to stage an invasion from within to essentially 'test' the abilities of her enemies/sister.
It's completely off-the-wall in terms of crazy conspiracy theories, but I find it hilarious how entertaining the concept is and how it has just enough to it to grab a hold of.
(Obviously, the actual plot holes of the wedding were really just that, but this theory fills them up with a heaping helping of awesome.)

@xTSGx's Number Story
Oh, the math feels!
That was great!

@Fifths @Deadparrot
Thanks! I'll always like Statistics, despite the fact it's nothing but padding.

@Revenge of the Fanon
The return of evil!Luna. As I said on EQD, how do you kill a fanon that's already been jossed? It's really funny, because right after that review aired, there were three or four evil!Luna fanfics posted on Fimfiction. Sadly, Tough Love: Celestia vs Luna's horribly [Grimdark] ending has nearly turned me off to the fanon, much like Lines and Webs turned me off to Tyrantlestia.

I'm a working man, I pay my taxes, I gave Gameloft my money so I could finally unlock Rarity and Rainbow Dash. Now I fucking want Scootaloo so I can finally continue this damn game!

Everybody probably hates it when I bring images I made myself up here… But here's a question….

Am I the only one that thinks Lyra would make a great stand in for Tony Stark or some other Genius Inventor hero?

… Granted I'm probably not the only one… But considering searches for mechanical armed Lyra on Google only yield a few results at a time, and searches for Lyra being a scientist yield almost no results… Like… Zero…

Basically, what I'm asking is… Why is Lyra always getting her hands from some-pony else?

…

Actually this is a stupid thing for me to rant about. Please slap me.

Not that anyone cares, but today is the day I turn 22. Last year I celebrated with lots of gambling, drinking, and smoking (and I'm not talking about cigarettes). Today, I'm doing none of those fun things, I guess I'll just sit here and wait for the next thread to start.

Come on guys, we only have two pages left! Speed it up!

I decided to watch an episode of 'Dan Vs' to see some other Hub programing. I liked it….pretty far out for the Hub, I mean the guy poisoned his best friend and put him through so much abuse. THEN the ending…..shit. Implied rape joke…..not really even implied, the last lines are "Now drop your pants" "But I'm just here for my face" "I'm not a doctor".

O_________________O And they censored the Derpy scene and let that scene play on the Hub all the time? Bad Hub.

Hello and welcome to Ponyville's first ever endurance competition! When it comes to pain, any pony can dish it out, but not very many can take it, which is kind of like the opposite of the way it is with cupcakes, but anyway, this ain't no cupcake contest. We're here to find out once and for all who can take the most ouchies before they go crying home to mommy!

In this corner is a pony who never lets a little falling keep her from getting right back up. Shes rammed rock towers, mowed into mountains, blasted through barns, and wringed her wings on multiple occasions AND has only some moderate brain damage to show for it! I give you the one, the only, RAINBOW 'WRECKINGBALL' DASH!

And in this corner is everypony's favorite punching bag. This guy has been clocked and cranked so many times it's a wonder he doesn't go cuckoo at lunch time! This scaly fiend is so tough that he eats diamonds for breakfast…AND WITHOUT ANY MILK. I give you Spike 'the squishyball' dragon!

Now onto our first challenge: Rarity, bring out the clothesline pinchers!

My Little Pony is a worldwide brand targeted to little girls and their parents (as they are the ones buying it.) Dan Vs. is simply a television show with an entirely different demographic (I'd also assume that Dan Vs. is TV-Y7 if not TV-14, and FiM is probably TV-Y.)

You can (literally) afford to be a bit more "out there" with a show that is Dan Vs. for a few reasons. My Little Pony has a plan in terms of marketing, and Hasbro won't stray from it.

tl;dr:

It's clever laugh.

This is like comparing what happens in the Legend of Korra to what happens in Blues Clues.

Just because LoK ended their season with a character committing a murder-suicide does not mean Nickelodeon should let up on what they allow in the programming for younger kids. It's a different demographic, age group, and different studios handling the license.

@Disturbed

@Fifths
While those two are certainly the favorites to win, I don't think we should count anypony out without at least giving them a chance.
Rarity!
More clothes pins!

@Dan Vs.
Yeah, awesome show but it is clearly designed with a different demographic in mind so it will never be held to the same standards as MLP, what most uninitiated people would probably consider to be one of the safest-for-kids kind of franchise (even if it really isn't).
Dan and ponies just don't mix.

After such a long binge on MLP, I too was a bit surprised at the shift in violence in Dan when I first watched it.
One episode has him plan to, and nearly succeed at, blowing up an animal rescue shelter with dynamite.
Dan is freaking nuts!
(But that's why we love him!)

Hey guys! Was reading the "What's the weirdest FANFIC you've ever read?" thread in Just for fun. I just reminded myself of probably the weirdest fic I ever readed! I can't remember the name of the fanfic…

Scootaloo invites Dash for a date. A real date. They go to dinner together and watch a movie. The movie have some sexual parts. [Missing scene]
Dash invites Scotaloo to sleep at her house in the clouds, so Scoots don't have to sleep in the streets [Missing scene]
Scotaloo is running around using Dash's old wonderbolt suit. Dash looks at her "parts" trough the suit. Dash gets aroused [Missing scene]
They are in Dash's bed, looking at each other. Scootaloo asks if she can have a kiss. Dash kisses her (her firts kiss) both of them get aroused. More kissing. Dash start to get horny(Is this the word I want use?) She goes down on Scoots. Makes she have her first orgasm. And the second.
"-You just came, tiger" (She used this actuall words!)
[Missing scene (Probably more sexual stuff)]

Still excited for each other, Dash grabs Scootaloo trough the window (to show her how is flying). They land. Scoots thanks for the night with her.

"-Maybe another date next week?"
"-Sure, I'll pay for it"

THE END

In all seriousness, this is the most fun I've had on KYM ever!!! Honestly, I would never know some interesting facts about MLP if it wasn't for this thread.
I've got something interesting to bring up though…

Seriously, there are NO male Alicorns! Why!?

A-hem.

So it looks like there will be more Micro Series comics. The next issue following the Mane Six will feature the Cutie Marks Crusaders!

If they're done as well as they were in Comic Arc 1, it looks like it'll be an adorable/awesome comic.

Here's the Sara Richard's incentive cover.

One day, Luna. One day you'll get your own comic.

Scootabuse can burn in the deepest, darkest depths of Tartarus as it suffers the eternal torment of flames and the agony of the souls of the damned for the sins it has committed.

@Jimmy Lethal/Dan Vs. Crossover
Well, technically, they kind of did crossover MLP and Dan for one of the Hub's commercials oh so long (like a year and a half) ago.

That little bit of cross-promotion fed into the ever-growing concept of Pinkie's fourth wall skills and simultaneously ended up spawning the very awesome Dan Vs. MLP fan tumblr (from which my gif from earlier was taken).

@Windigo

(Obviously) Right there with you on that, xTSGx.
Scootabuse can go die in a hole.

A hole full of acid.

And alligators.

Now, if you lose the 'e'…

It seems like the end of Pony General VI is right around the corner. I just came by to tell you all good luck. We're counting on you. Make the next general as fun as this one. Bye all.
