Spam Fail

Meh. I'm guilty of doing the same thing before. In my Freshman year of high school we had a semester long Photoshop class. We would trick eachother into opening gay porn in class. And those were in the days that it took a minute or two for the picture to load. So you'd already be talking to the person beside you waiting, then turn around to see the gay porn.

It just seemed to be more shocking back in the day.

And then the internet happened…
I'm sure we're all desensitized by now.
It was weird though, seeing that in my inbox. More of a "lolwut?" reaction than a "ZOMGWTFBBQ!" reaction.

I'm only talking about 1999. The internet was happening just fine. There's not much on 4chan that hasn't already been through Rotten.com or Stile Project years ago. Goatse was brand new in 99 though. 4chan launched in 2003.

This spam flood was just a slight time-waster for us. The mustache variant made me laugh though.

Well, the internet has advanced in its sick fuckery significantly since then. Now, you see things like tubgirl, goatse, and 2girls1cup and just keep scrolling. But when all this was new, and you'd just been introduced to such things, seeing these things usually resulted in vomiting and/or nausea.
I still remember the first time I laid eyes upon guro. It's all downhill from there…

Thanks for deleting the spam. But, knowing trolls, there's probably another wave on the way… Good luck.

~The internet is a secret government plot designed to desensitize us all to what normal humans find shocking so that our minds would be better equipped to handle the horrors of World War Three. We will be unstoppable killing machines without remorse. Blood of innocent villagers? Just a game to us. A mass grave filled with the emaciated bodies of our fellow man? A new fantastic inside joke. And we'd photoshop Skittles onto it, because Skittles make everything look happier.~

Shadowfury, I stand by my assertion that the content hasn't gotten any more extreme. Video happened, and the way we go about sharing has improved, but in terms of shock-value, it only has to do with a person's level of exposure.
