What movies have you seen recently, or you are interested in seeing?

The Oscars are coming up, and I haven't seen too many of the Best Picture noms this/last year, although I'd say American Hustle was my favorite movie of 2013.

I haven't seen the LEGO Movie yet, but I'm really hoping I have the time to do so before it goes out of theaters!

I'm psyched for The Wind Rises! It'll be sad to see Miyazaki retire from directing, but it still looks excellent. And even though Frozen was good, traditional animation beats CGI any day.

I'm also looking forward to Guardians of The Galaxy, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.

Just saw 12 years a slave. Shit was intense. It deserves to be an Oscar nominee…which it is. Wanted to go see the Lego movie with my brother last weekend, but he saw it the night before he visited me. Also, I'm looking forward to Winter Soldier because that shit looks intense!

So anyway, if you haven't seen the trailer for The Grand Budapest Hotel, here ya go! Looks very fun.

DON'T MAKE ME LAUAGH!

So I just saw the LEGO movie. It's awesome, but everything is awesome!
It had some of the best animation I've ever laid my eyes on. The way they combined stop-mo and CGI was seamless. It had more funny moments per minute than any animated film I've seen since the Shrek 2, and it had

A live action segment at the end that tugged at the heartstrings.

If I had to nitpick, I'd say there was one part near the end that I didn't really understand, specifically

When, in the live action world, Emmet moved by himself. That was odd.

Overall, an excellent 4.5/5. Next up I see either The Wind Rises or The Grand Budapest Hotel, whichever comes out first I guess.

Even better, Sharknado 2 is filming:

I really hope Syfy starts remaking bad B-movies to show to modern audiences. Start with Plan 9 From Outer Space and go from there!

Also I just learned that a 50 Shades of Porn adaption is coming out a year from now.

I would be glad for that myself. Books are almost always better than their film adaptions.

Godamnit, Guardians of the Galaxy is right around the corner and I still haven't watched Pacific Rim, Frozen, or The Lego Movie!
Man, I need to get shit done.

On another subject, have anyone watched the Robocop remake? How it was? I hope it wasn't bad as the Total Recall remake…

I just hope these remakers stay away from Predator and Terminator.

I still haven't seen Pacific Rim either ;__; and I'm finally seeing Lego Movie tonight!

Too late on Terminator though. They just finished rounding out the main cast
A lot of people are not too keen on it either, and I probably won't see it. I was hurt enough by Terminator Salvation, so ya :/

My opinions you probably don't care about:

Pacific Rim: The action is absolutely amazing. If you love testosterone-fueled action, you'll love this movie. The CGi is also done extremely well. However… The story is garbage. The acting is meh. In fact, the plot is so stupid, that all the conflict in the movie could easily be solved with some automated cannons, but they have to use giant, expensive, ineffective robots instead.

Frozen: Absolutely amazing. Predictable plot, but still beautiful, charming, funny, and has catchy music. It's a modern classic. (Wow what an oxymoron!)

LEGO Movie: Great stop-motion. There are hilarious jokes in nearly every other sentence. It's really fast-paced, yet it's not too silly. It even gets emotional and inspirational at times. I practically cried at one point, which I did not expect from a movie about LEGOs.

Remakes: NOOOOOOOOO! Do they really have to remake everything? This is getting really annoying. I honestly don't want to see them. It's getting annoying.

I personally did not like Pacific Rim… I guess I'm not that much into modern action movies. I feel that Hollywood has just done the same formula for nearly every action film since Avatar or Bayformers. I didn't grow up on giant robot/kaiju either. Judging by what I rave about on this site (mostly comedies and indie) you could probably tell that though.

I did like The Dark Knight a lot, though.

Saw "The Truman Show" on Netflix this weekend. I wasn't expecting a Jim Carrey movie to be this sad and intense! (Yes, I know he also did Eternal Sunshine, but that was later in his career.) It still had funny parts, and I did enjoy the premise. It just may not have been what I had expected. Still very good. 3.5/5 stars.

So the Oscars are coming this Sunday, and I'm wondering what nominated films KYM has seen yet. My list is pathetic this year, honestly…

American Hustle
Gravity
Captain Phillips
Frozen
The Act Of Killing
(And I plan to see The Wind Rises soon)

Shitshitshitshitshit.

The Giver trailer was released this morning. I don't know whether to be excited or annoyed…

I was excited because they have some really good actors in it (and this is like my all-time favorite book), but then I saw this and realized there are no black and white scenes. That's like half the good part of the book, realizing people don't see in color because they choose not to. Most of the facebook teaser pictures were even in black and white. I hope this was just a oversight or something. Maybe they're saving those scenes for the movie so no as to spoil it sortta. One can only hope…

Good to see this thread is back!

Anyway, this past weekend The Grand Budapest Hotel came to Boston, and I freaking. loved. it. Everything about it was amazing. The Beautiful Eastern European scenery, the combination of puppet show sets, miniatures, and live actors, the humor, the sledding scene, Saiorse Ronan. Ralph Fiennes. It was just plain fun from beginning to end. My new favorite film from Wes, and definitely one of my all-time favorites!

Anyone catch that Marvel TV special on last night? They showed some concept art for Avengers: Age of Ultron, bits of new footage for Guardians of the Galaxy, and finally showed that Ant-Man test footage from a couple years ago (I had only seen cam quality of it). :) when I get home I'll find the pics and link to the video

Oh and I finally saw Monsters U this past weekend. Pretty good, but not Pixar's best. I'd put it above the two Cars films, for me at least.

@Marvel TV special: No, I didn't even know about it, but I happened to catch some images they threw up at "marvel.com". It's mostly just concept art, but it has scenes from those 3 movies. looks pretty cool.

Edit: Also saw the Lego Movie and Captain Phillips recently. Both were good. The Lego Movie especially. I can't wait for the squeal I've heard is already in the works.
