I'm not sure if this is the right place to put a thread like this, but we'll see.
I'll probably get a lot of flak for making a thread like this.
Anyways, this is a thread meant for people who left Gamergate to talk about why they decided to leave, be it stress, or some other reason.
I'll start. I used to be an avid pro-GGer, getting involved when I saw a ton of gamergate images on the image gallery. I ended up leaving a long time ago, though. The main reason was stress: hearing constantly about how the SJWs/radical feminists are slowly taking over gaming and society was actually really stressful. The stress interfered with school and other aspects of my life.
Second, I gradually began to believe that pro-GGers would believe any news they hear from any source that supports them. To me, they treated sources such as 8chan as infallible. To me, the limit was when pro-GGers on 8chan linked Gamergate to a fucking conspiracy involving the Common Core, saying that the entire controversy was being used by SJWs and the elite to push Common Core into society. Holy. Fucking. Shit. I got pissed that 8chan was dragging its fucking conspiracy theories into Gamergate, and worse yet, so many pro-GGers swallowed it easily.
Also, pro-GGers were constantly talking about how their recent efforts would TOTALLY defeat the anti-GGers for sure! But anti-GG was never defeated. The pro-GGers' efforts didn't end Gamergate in a victory for them as they kept saying. Also, the lack of big happenings in Gamergate made me less interested in the movement.
Finally, one of the most important reasons for why I left Gamergate was how pro-GGers would easily turn their backs on any famous figures who declared they were anti-GG. I thought they let their pedestals break way too easily. It's possible they didn't know about Gamergate, and only heard the anti-GG opinions of the movement. Maybe the pro-GGers should have informed them about the pro-GG side in order to convince them to become pro-GG. Unless said famous figures have reached a point where they're irreversibly anti-GG (like Extra Credits or Jimmy Wales), you shouldn't immediately drop the famous figures you like just because they announced they oppose Gamergate.
Ultimately, I became a neutral (initally pro-leaning, but later completely neutral), and I feel much better now. Of course, I have a low opinion of SJWs and radical feminists, so don't accuse me of supporting SJWs and/or radical feminists, okay?
