Edit: It's too long to read my entire post! Read this: Legend of Zelda is much more popular than the "It's dangerous, take this" meme, but that's still a meme because it's independent.
It seems that many ideas/jokes that everyone would consider worthy of the title "meme" don't exceed the source's popularity…
Is "walk into Mordor" more popular than Lord of the Rings?
Is "there is no spoon" more popular than the Matrix?
Is "I herd you liek mudkips" more popular than Pokemon?
Is "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" more popular than X-men?
If the meme lives by itself, it should be acknowledged, even if its source is still super-popular, right?
Anyway, I'm bringing this up because Chris Menning denied the memicity of "Our princess is in another castle" and "It's dangerous to go alone" because the source games are more popular. I'd say those ideas have aquired an independent life, even if not as strong as Mario and Zelda.
(Noob at this site, but I tried to search before asking)
Edit: How do I posted short?
