Anyone following that noise? Race to get 1M followers on Twitter… think it's supposed to happen today (1M GET)

Was cruising /b/ this morning and found some threads organizing efforts to drive up followers on http://twitter.com/basementdad -- haven't heard of this guy before, anyone got info?

Check out this greasemonkey they link to, auto-creates twitter accounts & follows -- clever stuff:

Why would they WANT to get more views for/on Twitter?

I mean, I understand the "GET" mentality of getting followers… but isn't Twitter a lot like Myspace? I thought Anonymous hated social networking sites.

I'm smelling Agendafag all over this. I may be wrong, though, since I cant click on the links (they're blocked where I am, I'll check em when I'm home)

No agenda here, me believe. They decided to use this dude just so Kouchner wouldn't have the get. (And seriously… giving the false Fritzl more views than Ashton or CNN does bring a lot of lulz!)

And… err… Jamie? Never heard of Fritlz? The guy that kept her daughter locked in his basement and raped her for 24 years? You need to watch the International News from time to time. ;)

(Also: he's really Austrian, but somehow everyone got butthurt when Anon said he was Australian. So there you go.)

Ashty won.
But to quote a proud anon:

"It was just a competition that /b/ entered way too late for it's own good.

Is the internet over now that Kutcher won? Nope. Infact, it might be better off. The power of Internet prevailed over the old media (CNN), youth over old people, fame over faith.

The true winner here was Twitter. Basically, since we did a great job of fucking up their site, they were able to find the weaknesses, and are now able to code their site accordingly. In addition, all the huss and fuss we made drew more attention to the ordeal. And now, they have at least one more interested member.

Still, it is quite awesome that within 24 hours, we got basementdad over 300k followers, while CNN / Kutcher paled in comparison."
