Do you guys really hate western media?

There's plenty of western media I like, but there's not much to talk about media that does things well. There's been an abundance of recent flops in western media, so I can see why it can seem like people just hate western media in general. The only big eastern media critical flop I've paid attention to was the Dragonquest movie, though I think most folks are too caught up in the nostalgia-baiting to miss the issues with that.

And it doesks volumes that folks don't know many webcomics apart from a few ones.

I follow a few webcomics, all western, but I try to avoid the like "slice-of-life/dramedy" BS ones that seem to be abundant. Stand Still, Stay Silent is my current squeeze.

I definitely lean more towards Japanese stuff, but there's plenty of western stuff I've enjoyed. I will say, I think anime and video games are more prone to being viral or meme-worthy, so you'll probably see more of that kind of stuff on here. Which, when it comes to games, there's a good bit of western stuff that shows up here. But otherwise, there's been MLP, Steven Universe, Star Wars, etc. stuff on here, so it's jumping the gun to say we hate western stuff.

There are certainly Western books and video games I like, but I find the vast majority of Western TV and Movies to be abysmal. Why does everything have to be filmed with "cinematic" camera angles and movement? (I.E. let's make the camera as shaky and unstable as possible so the viewer can't actually see what going on)

While I read a shit-ton of manga, most of my markers on my browser are from webcomIcs I follow (and the list is incomplete since I check others via twitter and links). Besides that, I enjoyed some Western shows like Steven Universe and MLP, but it has been a while since I checked new ones.

Even as big of a weeb as I am, I love Western stuff just as much… only I don't care for current western animation though. I find them too childish to be appealing to me. As for older shows, I watched a lot of the same kid cartoons growing up as most people here, but I don't have the same level of nostalgia about them anymore. With that said, I am a huge Simpsons and King of the Hill fan, I quote both shows all the time, even in real life. I absolutely love American westerns (like cowboys), crime- dramas, and science fiction films. I don't read webcomics much anymore, but I've read far more of those than any manga. Regarding games, Its split somewhat in the middle, but I lean more towards Western made games than Japanese ones.

I grew up with SpongeBob and a lot of Nickelodeon, and even though the show is controlled by the satanic company that is Viacom, I love and respect Steve Hillenburg's baby. I still love stuff like Marvel and DC, (Spiderman being one of my favorites) and there's been some good stuff this year like the Harley Quinn animated show that aired on DC Universe this year, and Superman Red Son. Western media has done a lot of great things in general. Western media isn't the best at delivering quality and there is a lot of garbage I will agree with that, but you can find the quality if you look hard enough.

Edit
I just remembered the new characters that Marvel announced a couple of days ago, I'd rather not talk about that. Again western media creates a lot of failures

It really doesn't. Webcomics, while not a bad medium, are still relatively niche. They're nowhere near as popular as manga or games or movies. It'd be like me talking about visual novels; most probably don't know many aside from DDLC and Katawa Shoujo.

Anyways, I think this site is definitely biased towards certain types of media. Which is fine, it's merely a matter of taste and perhaps meme culture. But yeah, there's not really much to add that hasn't already been said. Western media makes a lot of trash and it's sort of easy to see how a person can become tired of the way things are done. There's also the "controversy" element and general "noise" which is seemingly absent (or at least greatly reduced) from eastern media.

I don't think it's possible to hate all western media if you're living in relevant areas in the world. There's probably one thing you like or at least tolerate. It's part of daily life. It's sort of inescapable.

Another thing I thought of: People tend to like what they don't have more than what they do. Even though media from anywhere will have good bits and trash bits, a westerner will generally only look at non-western stuff they actually enjoy, whereas good and bad western media will be all around them; which can lead to bias toward non-western things.

I'm not affluent with webcomics or western media, both of them together is a double negative for me. Internet webcomics I know of have either been around since forever ago or have been shilled to the moon and back on places like 4chan.

Good old word of mouth to a massive degree might draw me towards that slice of western media, but right now it's not something I see a whole lot in any regard compared to back then.

i just feel kinda alone in some of the opinions i have. like i mean i'm aware everyone's unique but when you're the only person who openly consumes foreign regardless of origin it feels kinda depressing.
