So forum mods are able to lock threads and unlock threads and can they do anything else?

The last thing I am aware of is they can modify other people’s posts or delete them.

Oh, it's Stoffe. Yeah, he should be a mod.

On that note, how do you become a mod? I'd like to put myself in the pot a few years from now.

I would make a terrible mod. If i'd ever become one i'd do a little celebration dance and then lock threads that I mistake for spam. Like this one. People are having fun but it's making some users just look greedy.I think you have to have like a clean record and browse the forums a lot to become a mod. No shitstorms. Stoffe DID draw and post a picture of Angrypwnzer as a penis, and Angrypwnzer fell for his trollbait. I had tons of shitstorms and accidently made a couple of sexist comments. All the mods today are good people… Why the hell is natsuru not a mod yet?

Ooo! Mod! I'd love to be a moderator!

But um…heh…I'll be honest, I have a bit of a history when it comes to going mad with power. Nothing serious; no one got hurt or anything. I did manage to destroy much of the facility I was put in charge of, but none of it was irreparable or anything. In fact, I could have fixed it if given the chance.

That's not going to be a problem, is it?

But I'm all for making Stoffe a moderator. It seems legit.

um…
Me4mod?
I mean, I'm pretty unbiased and have no enemies.
I'm also not into being overpowered and a tyrant.
Plus I have a dancing girl as my avatar, your guaranteed to get what you hire.
Dancing girls of course.

Well Stoffe, in order to become a mod you have to convince the admins that you're ready. Good behavior, useful posts, maturity, and good judgement are all key characteristics to a good mod. These are the primary qualities you will need to exhibit in order to gain moderator privileges. Good luck.

As for mod capabilities:
Forum mods have dominion over the forums. They clean up spam, remove overly-offensive content, and ensure that everything is in order so that the forums are conducive to positive conversation. They can edit and delete posts, edit threads, move threads, feature threads, and sticky threads.
Entry mods are in charge of the meme database. They clean up entries, remove spam submissions, research memes to improve entries, and decide what entries get deadpooled, featured, confirmed, and removed. They keep the site a reliable source of accurate information on memes. They can grant themselves editorship of any entry, delete entries, deadpool/confirm entries, and feature entries. All of the content on the entries is under their control as well.
Image moderators help the entry moderators clean up the content in the images and video sections. They can edit the attributes of media on the site and remove any media on the site.
Administrators have control of the entire site. They are your gods.

As far as I know, who gets to have a banhammer is entirely up to the staff. They decide who does and does not get to ban users. I'm not sure who all have banhammers, but I do know that PimpAbra, OGW, DPF, Tomberry, Mellow, Captain Blubber, myself, and all the Community Managers, interns, and administrators have banhammers.

I don't have banhammering abilities. Just to correct you, a little.

Really? I could have sworn I saw some deactivation notices in my inbox with your name on them. Could you in the past?
