Hobbies That You Have That Are Either Odd Or Quirky Enough To Be Slightly Interesting

I like to buy knickknacks. I usually look for anything bear or dragon related. But, I also like things that look like antiques.

I, also, collect japanese figurines. They're expensive, but like my knickknacks, they're my treasure. I would like to buy the more, ahem, risque figurines and statues. But, it's sort of embarrassing to buy with my family and all.

Sometimes, when I go on vacation, I have a habit of buying souvenir swiss army knives. I don't know why, really.

Maps. I love maps. Like, you don't even know. I make them up, draw them, vectorize them, and all sorts of stuff. My biggest project is of a map I once drew on a poster board of a country I made up back in 2005 or 2006, and that I'm still working on. I first digitized it in MS paint in 2007, then in GIMP in 2008, then in Illustrator in 2011. It currently consists of 28 layers and 21 MB. I generally view it at a scale of about 1:1000000, and the area of the country works out to about 2.5 million km², or roughly the same size as Kazakhstan. My most recent additions to the map was data about volcanism.

… I just not a splendid idea for a new community project thread!

I over-examine things too much, sometimes.

Sometimes I might just accidentally start thinking what I should do once I get home or once I get on a video game.

I might calculate everything, not joking at all.

(Not sure if that can be a hobby, but it still is worth noting on my case.)

During the summer, I like to go with my family to Native America pow wows. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically a Native American culture festival. They're usually outdoors, and the ones I got to are fairly small. As far as I know my family does not have a drop of Native American blood in it, but we've gone to pow wows for quite a few years now. I always love looking at what the vendors have to sell. It ranges from jewelery to incense and spices to toys and instruments to animal furs and bones/skulls. And everything is hand made. I think my favorite part about pow wows is the music and dancing that takes place in the circle in the center of the event. It's just something that is always a fun and interesting experience for me.

Storytelling. I am very good at imagining worlds and characters and things. Sometimes I write them and/or tell them to people, but usually I just make them up and forget.

I have my own "dream" reality in my head that I can basically jump to when I am daydreaming.

I still wonder how thoughts work, though.
And lucid dreams.

I need a lucid dream. I want to recreate my "dream" reality in my dream so I can feel how it is to be a pony. Or something else. Maybe a robot, or something…

I'm also training to have lucid dreams. Perhaps you've seen the Dream General?

I've got a few Stat docs on my computer that I've made that are based on Statistics in Video games, I've made some Spreadsheets based on Upgraded Weapons in TF2 MvM, Units from Starcraft 2, and my Trained Pokemons in White 1…

…I've got a little too much time in my hands.

@hot sauce discussion

I just got a 1 litre bottle of authentic taiwanese sweet chilli. I'm gonna throw it on my sammiches right now. Will let you know how hot it is

@2DollarBill

Do you try challenges like not dying a single time in an FPS without reloading as save point? That's one of my favorite challenges.

Model rocketry isn't too out of the ordinary, but I think it's cool. The altimeters are all like "beep beep beep" and then the motor goes "vwoooosh" and then you spend twelve painful seconds waiting to see if the parachutes deploy and two even more painful hours wandering tick infested grasslands to find where it landed. Building them is a tedious escapade as well.

I have a small knack for dancing. I have a bunch of videos on my YouTube channel of me dancing to songs on my iPod, but you can't see 'em because I find them embarrassing nowadays.

Again, same here. Not as active as it used to be, but it's still there.

And this is basically what my "dream reality" amounts to. I wonder if anyone here would be familiar with Furry Fiasco back on GameFAQs… Yep, that was me! Well, me, BrunomasterX, BTT, pokemonzx, and a small host of co-stars, but you get the picture. :p

I take a mental inventory of everything I try to make sure I know what my favorite option is in any circumstance.

I also study the theory behind comics.

The second one and im trying to get into fencing.

Also game theory.

I read reference books for fun. Especially almanacs and atlases. I also like to re-write English with my own way of spelling words. I will type everything I said up here below this in my weird spelling system.

Ii reed refrins bûks fü fun. Ispéshilee ôlminaks and atlisiz. Ii ôlsoo liik tuu ree-riit Iñglish with mii oon waa uv speliñ wrrdz. Ii wil tiip evreethiñ ii sed up hï buló dthis in mii wïd speliñ sistum.

I used to be into Lucid Dreaming big time, although I've quit it for years now because it was a lot of effort with little reward. I can definitely see myself picking it up in the future though, and I look forward to seeing the scientific advancements that will be made in the field. Consumer-oriented Dreamlight, anyone?

Back to the topic: I take in a pretty abnormal amount of media regarding game development and design. I'll just go to a place where I can find a bunch of intriguing links (/r/games and /r/truegaming, mainly), pick out a shitton of tabs and spend the next few days sifting through them. I find them endlessly fascinating.

i also play Menoth for warmachine. i refuse to play any other faction than them.

On the computer my hobby is collecting images and famous photographs, the "my pictures" folder on my computer is the most valued piece of space, its a extensively sorted archive of images sorted into folder then aged into generations of the time they were collected im pretty proud of it, I sometimes wonder if its just me trying to unknowingly fulfill an OCD but..pfft

Off the computer I collect military objects such as deactivated rifles, knives, swords, helmets, revolvers. Its a very expensive collection seeing as some of my helmets are WW1-2 authentic, not to mention my Samurai sword is very expensive and semi-traditionally made (real hamon line, rayskin etc.)

im blahing on now, im gonna shup.

I write stories, usually answering ethics questions through story. I've written Christmas stories about schizophrenia and I'm currently writing something about fear set in 1940s Boston.
I also collect bones, animal bones, not in a weird way they're just useful as a medical template.
