@404
Well we just actually started the whole competition yesterday but because there are only so many people that are in it I guess I could make a exception. Were drawing a battle between the participants and you have two weeks to get it submitted.

A few questions:

Is it ok if I draw only myself IRL in my drawing? I'm a camwhore Leo is small, and not the best fighter, and I find it a bit hard to draw a position that doesn't look too awkward.
If nobody has a problem, of course. If someone does, then it doesn't matter.

Is 404 in the battle?

And last: Is it ok if the drawing has a bit of blood? Not gore, just blood.

I personally wouldn't mind blood, so that is fine by me. And as long as you make yourself recognizable (like giving yourself cat ears or something) you should be fine with drawing your IRL self.

And 404 is in every drawing. He is simply not found.

Alright I apologize for my absence, I've been quite busy with a lot that's been going on and I almost forgot about this. Almost.

Okay first things first: The due date for everyone's drawings has been extended by two more weeks.

Okay now I didn't want it to come to this but I'm not seeing anything and until from today till the 4th of April is how much time all of us have.

"But hobo what happens when we don't get out stuff in time?"

Well then you don't get jack shit and your vote doesn't mean anything. I had also been thinking about the whole voting system as it were. I mean sure it isn't karma based but Some of you are a bit biased towards one another. For instance because of his popularity Natsuru could draw something and maybe he might win in a landslide. So what I might do soon is I might ask a few of the non biased moderators of "Could you possibly fill in as a judge for my art contest?"

@Digoxin
Personally you can either draw yourself IRL or you could draw Leo. 404 is in the battle now and Ann Hiro has told me recently that he's going to be dropping out of the contest.

So our list of contestants is:
Me
Natsuru
Digoxin
404
MasterBurner
Wsxdas
Penz0id
Genki Sprinkles (I'm not sure when he came in but whatever.)

And if you've forgotten what you needed to draw it's: A battle between participants and you now have April 4th as the deadline.

AND as a final note the voting system may or may not be changed. Depending if I can or can't get the moderators in on this. Not the actual contest but as a judge.

P.S: This is the last time I'm going to be extending the deadline. No more exceptions.

Well fuck. I was almost done with my drawing, and now I am going to have to make some serious edits to it because of this…

I apologize in advance Natsuru But you can turn it it when your finished without editing it. It'll still be acceptable.

Another announcement ladies and gentlemen! The voting system is being changed from you all having one vote to a small panel of judges with unbiased opinions. Although I need a I still need a 3rd judge to finish the panel.

Alright we finally have our three judges ladies and gentlemen! They are:
Former contestant Ann Hiro
Former contestant Natsuru Springfield
And Forum Moderator Verbose

You all have until April 11th to get your work submitted. Now I know that I sadi originally it was going to be the 4th but seeing how the judges start posting their votes on the 4th through 11th I thought to myself "That work out a lot better seeing how nobody is done with their piece yet and this gives everyone plenty of time" but from here on out under no circumstances I will not continue to extend the date.

Okay judges it would be time for you to start using your best judgement on entry's participants in the thread would be putting in but sadly we have no submissions yet!

The latest you can turn your pieces in is April 11th gentlemen!

VERY WELL, I AM READY TO LOSE!

All I'm gonna say is very clever!
But that is all for now, and will officially judge everything once all the entries are submitted

Alright, here goes! I did a Chivalry theme.

-Accidentally included Nat before knowing they backed out.
-Don't know whether it's against the rules to use a picture background or not.
-Also forgot Sprinkles! Ooops.
-Sorry for drawing Old-Hobo-Avatar (but check them pipes!)

@MasterBurner, am I covered in oil in your submission?

Okay… Here it goes…

Sorry. I would color, but I don't know how.
Also, Ann was supposed to be fighting me, but since I left both anime characters waiting because I suck at drawing anime I simply didn't draw him.

Alright, so…

@MasterBurner: Very clever idea, though there are quite a few proportion errors in there. Not to mention that you don't seem to have access to a tablet and/or an art program like Photoshop.

@Penzoid: Not certain if the photo-background is against the rules or not, but since it's "Art" and not "Drawing", I think you get by. In terms of the drawing, nice use of textures, though there are some proportion errors (but not nearly as many as the other colored works).

@Wsxdas: Seems you had the decency to completely draw your entire background. Kudos to that. But the fact you used MS Paint for the whole thing slammed the quality quite a bit.

@Digoxin: Despite being the only pencil drawing, it's actually rather well drawn. Maybe a bit more shading could have gone on Master Burner's right arm there, as it looks like a massive booby at first, but besides that it looks fine. (Also, if you find it hard drawing Anime, you can switch a character to a similar style you are comfortable with and still get away with it.)

Overall, my vote goes to Dioxin. His drawing looks the cleanest out of the 4 despite not being colored, and he has the least number of proportion errors.

Just comments here, sorry for being an anus, and no offense intended with these criticisms:

@Natsuru, I like the feedback overall, but I don't think you judged the pieces fairly. I want to point out that the theme of the drawings were supposed to be a battle between the participants, and not a contest of who has the most proportionally correct submission.

@Dioxin, congratulations on your first vote. My only issue with your submission is the lack of "battle."

TL,DR: The other three submissions (MasterBurner, Wsxdas, and I) followed the decided theme of the contest.

@Penzoid: I felt that all the participants met the theme adequately. This is their perception of how the battle should be represented, and what point in the battle should be as well.

Dioxin's battle was mostly in the standoff mode (moments leading up to the battle; you and your bro are about to crash headlong into each other. Or the moment the battle is about to start, see Lopunny trying to fire her gun in the drawing), which still counts.

A person known for text is judging art.

…Okay.

  • MasterBurner
    • I can easily tell who's whom, and everything seems to be drawn well. It's certainly got a strictly 2-D feel, and it lacks any shading or depth, but it's not a bad picture by no means.
  • Penz0id
    • I didn't like a lot of this, because a lot of this wasn't drawn. But even with the background, the characters are placed well, and they appear to be sized somewhat proportionately considering the background. The characters themselves are pretty nicely drawn, but I can't give a lot of kudos for just drawing characters in terms of their quality.
  • Wsxdas
    • Despite the background being drawn, it still feels very 2-D. The characters are all at the same depth, and the orange pterodactyl's doesn't feel like it's viewing it from his own perspective, I guess (I can tell the intention, but I don't think it was executed well.) The lack of straight lines also bother me considering that's a pretty basic technique, even in digital art.
  • Digoxin
    • No background, and characters aren't really interacting with each other. But these characters 1. have a different style indicating that the artist has a grasp (and executed) ways of drawing outside of a default style (e.g, the eyes of some characters are different from others, the amount of shading differs from character to character, etc.), and 2. the characters themselves are well-drawn. I can't give it a 9, because there's no background and they aren't really appearing to be fighting each other, but the characters are easily the best drawn ones.

I applaud all of your efforts. But in terms of how much I appreciated and enjoyed the art, I like Digoxin's the most.

Master Burner: I personally like this due to the cleverness of the piece. Who thinks of a mental battle? Someone with a brain of course. All characters recognizable, good lines, warm colors. Very Basic tho. But feels really flat to me, no depth, except Hobo's desk.
- 5.5/10

Penzoid: You lose points for the shopped background. Each character is well colored, and has a feel of depth to it. The lines are nice and crisp. Still lost points for unoriginal background.

- 6/10 (Sorry but the background killed it)

Orange Pterodactyl with name I can't pronounce.: Well done with the background. Characters are once again recognizable. I can tell you where doing the same theme as Penzoid. I can see some perspective with the stairs in the background. I also congratulate you for using MS Paint. Love that representation.

- 7/10

Digioxin: Very nice to see an IRL drawing. Nice use of grays. Each character is well done. but there seems to be a lack of interactions with characters. No sort of background going on, and the only ones who seem like they are fighting are yourself, and Lolpunny/Genki Sprinkles/Nevla
And maybe Penzoid and his brother. Overall most well drawn.

- 7/10

Also lawl a sample of my unfinished piece

Alright fellow contestants/amateur artists of KYM. From the critics of our competition we have learned valuable lessons about composing art! Pay close attention:
1) Original backgrounds = best backgrounds!
2) Depth of field is crucial, don't be 2 dimensional!
3) If you can't draw a certain style, just redraw it in your own!
4) Be original!
5) If you're going to add colour, add colour well!
6) If applicable, make sure your characters are visibly interacting!
7) Make characters dynamic and involved!

I'll make sure to remember these for my next submission!

8) Also, bribes are useful!

Myself and Verbose both voted for Digioxin, and Ann essentially has half of his vote devoted to Digioxin as well.

So yeah, Digoxin wins the contest.

Wait I still got Verbose's numerical score.
We gotta average that Natsuru.

I'd like to see who's up for a second challenge, so post here if you're in. We can decide on a subject and criteria for the submissions once we have several people sign up. I also suggest that in the next round we use a scoring rubric. (We may need a new thread "JFF Art Challenge(s)")

Okay then, Its official Digoxin has become the champion of this thread! As reward of drawing the "best" picture out of everyone else in the entire thread he shall receive a gift that has been passed down from the gods! And it is….

In other words it means

So the game you shall receive (assuming that you have a steam) is going to be the Oregon Trail, being an old retro game about surviving, but rather than it being the old version its the new one about a zombie outbreak and trying to get to the only place it's safe; Oregon. Now I will be giving it to you shortly, probably about 20 minutes and I hope you enjoy it. If you wish to contact me on steam I am *"Azubuike Tribal Chennan".

Oh, wow, I actually won!
Well, if you need my Steam profile, here it is
Now, I wouldn't mind another round. Now that we now how we should do, things might get real explosive.
PD: Why is everyone misspelling my username?
PDPD: Who upvoted every post in this thread?
