Well I'm not American, nor am I going to do anything like any time soon, so I can't.

@db

I just assumed he meant… you know what, screw this thread.

This will literally do nothing. You'll all just fill up the next day anyway, and nothing will change.

Besides, the oil companies don't set prices – that falls to OPEC.

Come on, this is our chance to really do something! WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD! I wouldn't be surprised if you were actually working for the oil companies yourself…

You're not even trying to sound legit here TK.

I'm going to second Fridge Logic here. Incoming bulleted list:

  • On April 14th, half of all of the drivers everywhere fills up or gets a little gas.
  • On April 15th, no one anywhere gets gas. Not a drop.
  • On April 16th, the other half fills up or gets a little gas.

It does nothing but inconvenience people who need gas (not to mention the increase in lines for gas the day before and the day after.) Furthermore, people who have to get gas will get gas anyway. Truckers? They probably have to stop and get gas each day a few times a day. They bust up a lot of money on gas, and if they don't get it for one full day, they likely get fired (and the things they deliver don't get to where they need to be.)

Unless you simply don't need gas, then it doesn't matter on what one day everyone doesn't get gas. Like dac said, you will get gas at some point. Gas prices may drop for a bit, but they'll go back up to recover the losses once the market demand increases.

If you want to make a difference:

  • Take up public transit for part of your lives (e.g., split your transit days between driving and a local link or bus line).
  • If you can walk or bike to work or school, try that out.
  • Carpool when you can. If you can coordinate getting groceries or going to a local event with your friends or neighbors, try that out.
  • If you've got that sort of power in your household, look into getting more fuel efficient vehicles.
  • Orchestrate your trips to places so that you don't have to drive so far in one trip.
  • Heck, don't gun the accelerator if you don't have to. Unless you need to get out of the way of an 18-wheeler or something or you're in a rush, then you really don't have to go 12-15 miles per hour over the speed limit. That alone will save you gas.

The trick here is to decrease the demand for gas by using less gas overall. Even if the prices stay the same, we won't end up paying as much on gas.

It requires (much like everything in the US) a change in lifestyle. Once gas isn't as necessary to US Americans (or anyone,) then gas prices will come down for an extended period of time. Professional athletes (and owners, coaches, trainers, etc.) get paid ludicrous amounts of money, because fans pay ludicrous amounts of money for television packages, live tickets, and paraphernalia.

As soon as fans stop paying so much to watch these events, then athletes (and the like) won't get paid as much.

tl;dr: This moves the demand for gas to another day. The amount of demand doesn't change. We have to use less gas to lower the demand (and therefore, the money we end up dishing out).

Also, you're Troll King. Smart, clever, but you're here to screw with those who will fall for your tricks. However, it's entertaining that some people don't take that into account when reading your, um, "suggestions."

Finally! Someone is willing to support me in my quest for lower gas prices!

I did the math a while ago. The average of people that come on to this site are about 14-15. Although this is kinda old.

Make sure the door doesn't hit your ass on the way out.

what do you expect half of them are too young to drive and only go where mom drives them

the others are already tree hugging hippies shooting marijuanas into their arms and driving a prius or a fixie

By those calculations you would be assuming that each for each of the 20 years and older users (there are quite some), we have one that is below the age of 10.

I doubt that math is correct. If you said 17-19, I would've believed you, but 14-15 is just way too young for the average. Nearly all the mods here are 20 or above, those that aren't are commonly 18-19. Even amongst users for as far as I know we have a lot that are 18 or above.

Yes, we have quite some 14-16 users, but to make that the standard is taking it too far. Dac's expectations are more correct than your calculations.

Like I said this is outdated and I need to redo the math all over again. This was from around the time we had that influx of new members that were around middle teenagers. Although this is from several months ago. Now it was correct a while ago but now it's wrong because the times have changed and there are a lot of different users here.

I would try and do the math all over again but it'd kinda be a pain in the rear to get everyone's age.

What if you're like me and despise a healthy, green Earth?

What about those of us who enjoy the fragrance of polluted air, and prefer every square inch of the Earth to be covered in toxic chemicals?

That's why I've decided to launch my I <3 2 POLLUTE campaign, so that we can rest easy knowing that when we wake up in the morning, we can be sure that our skies are filled with smog, and our oceans covered in oil.

When you average it out, take the median. The mean isn't resistant to outliers meaning the crazy high and low values will have more weight.

That's about the only useful thing I've learned in AP Stats.
