Rant time...

I wanted to post this in cringeworthy, but I felt I would take heat for that. You know what makes me cringe?

Twitter. All of it.
I believe that over the past five years, it has done more than any other site to breed strawmen from both political parties, animal wrongs groups, racism, batshit conspiracies, ignorance, narcissism, and trashy culture in general. People barely seem to be able to have civil conversations on that site, much less accept each other's opinions.

Now I can't stand either sides of politics, so this post may not be helpful, or I may come off as a prick. I do believe in free speech, but Twitter just brings out the worst in people imo.

End rant…

(I seriously needed to get this out. I didn't have a great day…)

That's alright, you're not the only one that hates these things. I think that in Social Medias, people can freely say whatever they want, and there would be minimum penalty. Many people are ignorant and what they have to say is some of the most stupid things mankind could think. Best thing to do, ignore them.

And sorry about the bad day. Hope you get better.

Thank you! Hopefully tomorrow will be better, and I won't feel as pessimistic.

I used to be conservative…
Then I found out about the Coca Cola ad controversy.
I'm on neither side now.

To be fair, it really depends on how you use twitter. Personally, I use it to keep up on the artists/content creators that I follow. Usually when a content creator posts something new and/or updates something they'll post it on twitter, and so I don't miss any of the things I care about.

Social media allows people to be idiotic and strawman-y, but it's also really helpful in spreading your creative content across the internet and as long as you don't follow any of the idiotic opinion spouters you'll be fine

So, is this a rant thread or just you blowing off steam?

There have been quite a number of rant threads made I believe. Can we actually have one legitimate rant thread where we can blow off some steam without fear of getting downvoted? Preferably something that could get featured because I'm pretty sure ranting is a timeless thing.

On my political side, I'm independent. I just associate with whichever politician is best from an objective point of view instead of choosing based on party like most people do. (I still lean more towards liberal in my views, but I don't let that bias me)

On your rant, while I agree, I think Twitter and the internet overall is extremely powerful. While people always make fun of online activism, AKA "slacktivism", Twitter is actually one of the major websites that causes quick change. In developed countries it may not seem important, but the internet is a dictator's worst nightmare come true. They try to do whatever they can to take it from their people to keep them ignorant, but it always gets through in the end. Turkey, Ukraine, and many other examples of third-world countries with horrible conditions are revolting because of the internet and the power of Twitter. It's really amazing when you think about it.

As for my own rants, most of them would land me in the hypothetical "downvote hell" just like Sir Brown Bear's. I'll keep my arguments to the subject at hand. So, will this be a rant thread, or just one about what you're saying? I'd like this to go somewhere.
