Sprunki is a horror Incredibox mod by NyankoBfLol that allows players to place a variety of hats on a row of characters, each hat transforming the character and causing them to sing specific melodies or make specific sounds. If the player places a black hat on one of the characters, everything in the game becomes dark and creepy, including the background, the character sounds and their transformations. Sprunki was released online in August 2024 and garnered a significant fandom over the following months, inspiring fan content including fan art and reaction videos on sites like TikTok, YouTube and X / Twitter.

History

On August 24th, 2024, the Sprunki Incredibox mod was released by Cocrea^[1] user NyankoBfLol, however, the page no longer seems to be active. The game has since been reuploaded to several sites, including sprunki.org.^[2]

Sprunki plays the same as the base Incredibox game in which you drag a selection of hats or objects onto a row of characters, transforming the selected character in a specific way and causing them to sing or make music. However, if the player places a black hat icon on a character, the game becomes horror-themed, with each item now transforming the characters in a gruesome way, the background changing to black with floating eyes in the sky and the music each character makes becoming harsher.

On September 1st, 2024, YouTuber^[3] BaggerHead uploaded gameplay footage of Sprunki in which they made a song using the mod and changed it to the horror setting around four minutes into the video, garnering over 2.5 million views in a month.

Online Presence

Sprunki garnered a significant fandom in the months following its release, inspiring fan content on sites including YouTube, TikTok and X. In September 2024, the game became the subject of numerous Let's Play and reaction videos on YouTube.

On September 10th, 2024, YouTuber^[4] FixiMix posted a video of a song they created using Sprunki, garnering over 3.4 million views in a month. On September 22nd, TikToker^[5] @awesamlyy posted an edit based on the game that gained over 3 million views in three weeks.

On October 4th, X^[6] user @UnusualYikes posted a Sprunki animation based on Happy Tree Friends that garnered over 9,500 likes in 10 days. On October 8th, X^[7] user @maskedposzum posted an animation that gained over 5,600 likes in six days.

The game's character Wenda, an anthropomorphic cat girl, became notably popular as the subject of fan content. For example, on October 12th, 2024, TikToker^[8] @zam_.2027 posted an animation in which Wenda dances that garnered over 1.5 million views in two days.
