My TV is a piece of shit so a while ago I decided to wire up my Wii U to my monitor instead so I can use it almost like a PC with a controller. The HDMI goes from my Wii U into a splitter which separates the audio from the video and then another HDMI goes into a HDMI* port on my monitor. The splitter shoved the audio onto RCA stereo cables (or SPDIF but I don't know what that is :L) so I use a short RCA to 3.5mm cable that I can either plug my headphones into directly or use a 3.5mm male to male cable to plug into my computer. The result is Smush Brus and other games in byoudiful quality.
I don't have much to do these days.
*actually it goes into a hdmi to dvi adapter because it only has 1 hdmi port but the qualtiy is still BYOUDIFUL
