First off, try mimicing popular characters into a microphone and playing it back so you know how you actually sound. Second, learn to speak in multible accents and tones of voice. Lastly, learn how to manipulate your emotions.
Im espesially good at the last one, and can send myself into deep shock if I try hard enough. XD
I can get pretty expressive. Can someone get me a list of recommended characters? I prefer imitating really hyper, loud characters.

Try the various voice roles of Mel Blanc (The main voice actor of Looney Toons). But then try going outside your box and try impersonating a calm character like Itsuki Koizumi.
Then go all out and impersonate Mark Hamill as the Joker.
Here are a few tips for voice acting.
1. Find out the best distance to keep your mouth from the mic and stay there while recording for that bit to keep the same atmosphere about your voice.
2. Carefully soften your "s" sounds because they can cause distortions in your voice.
3. Buy a high quality mic with a filter once you get relatively good and NEVER EVER TOUCH, TAP, OR BLOW INTO IT. EVER. Because it WILL break the first time you do.
4. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
5. ???
6. Profit! (I just had to)
Research a bit on Google, there's bound to be good advice out there. I personally have been considering trying to get into reading books on tape (or I guess they call them books on CD or audiobooks now…) I'm often complimented on my voice, and my father was a DJ.
1. Watch Dark Knight over and over again.
2. Imitate Batman's voice over and over again.
3. Once perfected, record you saying 'My anus is bleeding'.
4. Submit to a voice acting company.
5. ???
6. Profit.
try finding a voice(s) you can really go with. It can be crazy, funny, soft, aggressive, ect. Then it can tell you about your character and what characters you can play as.

Me? The Joker?
YES! YES!
Can someone get me some scenes from Soul Eater with the dialogue cut out? I want to try doing voices for Death the Kid, Black Star, and Soul

1. Go to YouTube.
2. Search "Soul Eater".
3. Click on link.
4. Turn town volume.

I can't dub a demo real just like that!

*reel.
No, you can't, but that's not really the point, seriously. If you're going to do a demo reel, you're probably going to need some quality audio equipment, which has nothing to do with needing the video you referenced. If you're intending to redub the video with your own voice, then whatever software/equipment you use for that purpose should also have the ability to edit out the original sound. Either way, I don't see why you need anything more than a visit to Youtube to serve you purposes.

Well if you're cheap like me, you go download the video you want redub, put it in movie maker, mute the clip, record your voice, add it in the audio section, and watch finished product in awe (or disappointment which is what happened to me when I tried to do this)
@Tht Gy
Exactly. It's essentially that or buy/rent/borrow a bunch of expensive equipment. But that would be a good place to start before you shell out the big bucks.
I'm a cheap bastard ( and you can quote me on that! ) so I think i'll do the movie maker and make a youtube to show you

Aye em goh-eng toe Seth Efrice.
Sorry if i'm necroposting, but I have a question: is it a good idea to practice voice acting by reading lines from manga as the character would say it?
It's good practice as long as you don't actually look at the lines while you say them. That way it sounds more natural than simply reading it with feeling.
Read this. It's very informative
