If you don't know who this is, here's a video compilation of some popular gifs that are related to one of her sub-memes, the Osaka Shoe Kick:

Her real name is Ayumu Kasuga. I have a feeling that she should be a parent meme of her own because she seems to have influenced several memes, one of them being the Shoe Kick. Even some people questioned her memecity on this site. You can find the short discussion here: https://knowyourmeme.com/forums/1-general/topics/198-azumanga-daioh

In ED, she is the only character out of all the characters in Azumanga Daioh to have her own article written about her: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Osaka

Wikipedia states the she is the most notable of the most influential anime heroines due to her differentiation from the stereotypical female anime character: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayumu_Kasuga

Here's a Macrochan link for existing images and gifs that are related to Azumanga Daioh as a whole: http://macrochan.org/search.php?tags=Azumanga+Daioh

And here's a YTMND Wiki link for her: http://wiki.ytmnd.com/Osaka

So, what do you guys think? Note that I just breezed through this and I haven't done enough research about her to know what some of her other sub-memes are like.

I'm sure there are more out there. I just don't know where to find them because I'm lazy.

Here's a Macrochan link of the shoe kick with more than ten variations of the gif: http://macrochan.org/search.php?tags=Osaka+kicks+shoe

Yes, there are a lot. My only problem is the fact that I don't know where to find more gif examples for this entry other than Macrochan and Youtube once I make it. Once I DO make it after I send this reply, can you people kindly supply examples.

Thanks.

Ahh yes, my friend Coocie2 from a forum told me of this:

SATA ANDAGI!
Say it. Srsly, say it aloud. It's fun.
Here's the original topic:

Hold on, I don't think we're quite ready for a meme entry yet.

Azumanga Daioh isn't an Internet Meme. It's a popular series.

But there are a number of Azumanga-related memes that we need to figure out. Let's continue to share info in this thread and figure out just what we're looking at before we create a meme entry.

Two months back we got this entry for "I wish I were a bird" and I tried researching it over and over before deadpooling it.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/i-wish-i-were-a-bird

So far the suspected memes are

Osaka Shoe Kick
Sata Andagi
I wish I were a bird

and each of these has some elements on YTMND, Youtube, and/or Macrochan.

We ought to map this out more carefully so we know exactly what we're looking at.

But it's getting late. I need to sleep at some point, so here's what I'll suggest.

Let's begin with the Osaka Shoe Kick. Find out when this started on Youtube, when it started on YTMND, when it started on Macrochan, and if it exists on any other memetic hubs, check there as well. Let's find out when and where this one started, then move on to Sata Andagi, and finally "I wish I were a bird."

There will definitely be some overlap here, but I'm hoping that we'll be able to find one original instance that they can all be traced back to that is stull unique enough to be regarded as a recontextualization of some sort, like a Youtube Poop.

Something to consider:

While researching the Party Hard meme, and discovering that it originated on SomethingAwful before making its way to 4Chan, I noticed that this Osaka Party Hard gif had already been created on SomethingAwful in 2003.

So we may as well search though old SomethingAwful archives and find what kind of Osaka materials they were creating no earlier than 2003.

Now here's the strange part:
In Google I enter the following query:
Azumanga site:somethingawful.com

Nearly all of the results are from 2006. And the site's internal search is broken.

This search: to be continued…

I'm bumping this thread because I decided to do research on the Osaka Shoe Kick again.

Now, the earliest video of the Osaka Shoe Kick uploaded on Youtube was the last video I gave a week ago entitled "osaka and the shoe" which was submitted on October 1, 2006 by dengakumanfan12.

If you get bored from watching this video without music, here's the "updated" version with music uploaded two months later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cgu-iz7Ul0

Here are some YTMND's of the meme that I found. The earliest one submitted was the "Osaka, stop throwing your damn shoe!! (reload)" variation which was submitted on June 21, 2005 by a user named KKM (it's the first one in the list):
- http://osakamod.ytmnd.com/
- etc.

Of course, the Macrochan is here: http://macrochan.org/search.php?tags=Osaka+kicks+shoe

I'll see what else I can find about it.

Alright, what you've got there is a YTMND meme. They're easy to make, fairly easy to document, and easily confirmed. I think you're about ready to write up the entry.

Yeah, I'm about to make the entry. The only thing I need to find is the episode the shoe kick appeared in and I'm good. I'll do it tomorrow because I have to sleep now. If you can find it before I do, that would be great.

G'nite.

It's almost ready. The only problem is that it only provides one link to a YMND. I'm going to look up some of the other YTMND's to directly link to. If it's a YTMND meme, we sould be able to provide links to instances that are found on YTMND. The Youtube videos do a great job at illustrating that the meme is also found on Youtube, but we don't want to use them as the primary example.
