I'm still not sure whether I should even set foot in the IRC. I've heard good things about it, but I don't know quite how I'd fare in a chatroom with other KYMites.

If you have the time, there's no reason not to give it a try. Usually people just post interesting or funny things they find. Also, most topics are up for discussion, and everyone there is a lot of fun. So yeah, it would be nice to see new people there.

Seriously though, now that I’m aware that an IRC exists, I’m in the boat of “Sure, why not give it a try.” I mean, I don’t know many users on KYM (although I do know a couple of usernames), and I’m sure that this could be a good way to get to know people.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll start out. It’s late right now, and I’m sure not many people will be in the IRC. It's even less likely that an actual discussion is going on.

Actually around this time is the most active. People are on IRC 24 hours a day.

Hey guys, there're currently spammers in our IRC rooms, so if you want to get into #Knowyourmeme, enter #OMGKYM and message either PimpAbra, Opspe, Dpf, madcat, Verbose, Cyber6x, Amandab, MemeMachine, or any other user and ask for an invite.

Update: We've changed it so that we have a password on the chat at the moment.

If bumped over to #OMGKYM, use /knock #knowyourmeme then use /join #knowyourmeme Be sure to ask for password.

Or else PM myself or another one of our mods to get it.

Right now it's telling “Cannot join channel (+r) – you need to be identified with services” for both rooms. I've messaged a mod about it, but if anyone else knows, that works too.

You need to register a nickname to get onto the rooms.

Use /msg nickserv register password email

Why am I getting "bad key" message and can't join the IRC? I can't talk about dicks with you guys now.

For all of those who don't know what to do after those register:

When you finally register, go back to the main menu(Connect to IRC)
And there should be a box that say Auth to services. Check it.

Then there should be two new boxes(Username and Password). Fill that out with what you registered and done, you're in.

Note: You still have to fill out the "nickname" box

For anyone wondering why these new rules have been enacted, take a look at some of the logs:

Anyone know how long your username is unavailable if you have enforce on and you fail to identify in time? My client froze and I got locked out.

Try this:
/msg NickServ regain ServantOfLight
I got my nickname back this way.

IRC should be accessible again. If the spambots return, so do the modes and everything. So be aware for the time being. If you suddenly have trouble joining, you know the reason.

I'm so undecided about this thing. I guess I'll go stick my head in the door…

Ah. I tried to get in last night but couldn't. Now I know the reason why. I'm glad it's fixed now, though. I'll try again…
