BTW, I am planning on getting this thread locked when it reaches 200 pages. A sequel thread will be created and linked to on the last page of the thread, so everyone should get ready to change their bookmarks sometime tomorrow or whenever it reaches that magical number.

Not to sound like a d*ck, but didn't Fridge Logic had this idea some time ago. If I remember correctly, you were the first one to react. Directly diagreeing and requesting a lock.

May I ask why it's necessary now?

Fun Luna related fact: The imprint on the moon in "Mare in the Moon" that looks like Luna (until she escapes) is known as a "Luna Mare" which is Latin for "Moon Sea". If you were to pronounce it like it was english, it would have an equally appropriate meaning (Mare is pronounced Mah-ray in Latin), since as we all know, Mare is an english word for a female horse.

The difference is this: 1. Fridge Logic chose a completely random time to do it, and gave little to no indication that he was making it beforehand. 200 is a nice round number to stop i think. And as for why? 2. The size of the pony thread is becoming too large compared to the others imo. Click on the general forums section. Notice the size of the pony thread pages compared to the rest. If we don't account for breaks every now and then, the thread will become massive, drowning out most other threads. In summary: I believe every 200 pages, we should start a new thread to stop the current one getting too large.

Your arguments are better than Fridge's and it's true that this thread kinda drowns the other threads. I still believe this thread works fine, but I'll follow whatever decision is made. Switching threads is not that big of a problem.

One thing though if you're gonna make a new KYM Pony General, warn others as well. New threads related to MLP tend to receive hate when they're launched. Having a new thread with a first page filled with "WE DON'T NEED MOAR PONIES???!!!?!?one!?!?" doesn't leave a good impression to new users. If you leave the same arguments (and maybe some more) in the first post and add that the old thread will be locked, people will probably be more reasonable.

Besides, Derpy had one line that she might not have even said and people obsess over her, how is this any different?

But won't that thread just shoot to the top again anyway? This doesn't seem like a lasting solution. Ever since we stopped having conversations in the comments this has become the place for us to congregate, and since this site has such a large brony community any place where we gather will become big and unwieldy very quickly. Starting another thread just seems redundant and unnecessary.

It's because of the huge 200 links to each page in the topic listing.

Having a new thread would cause the older one to fall off the top and into page 2. Frankly, I don't see the problem as I frequent a board that does this and nothing really bad happens. Just a final message from a mod saying "Please continue the discussion in part 2" and posts a Link to that new topic.

Exactly. The MSPA forums for example do this frequently. It's a fairly common technique on forums of keeping space taken up my threads to a minimum.

I don't have a problem with moving to a sequel thread, the page count on this one is pretty obscene anyway.

I'm all for a new thread. Given the massive influence of Pony on this site, I'd like to be able to limit the visual presence of Bronies to a reasonable amount.
 
But I strongly second RandomMan's suggestion to somehow give a heads-up to forum frequenters as to why it's happening.

I don't mind having discussions on the merits and less appealing aspects of the fandom, but I don't want to see arguments for the first 5 pages of the thread.

They'd have to explain why the thread was created as well since new pony threads tend to get all the negative karma as well, kinda annoying, either negative karma or the page deals pushing off the other threads, ugh.

Are we really having a debate about this? It just seems like a mundane, routine thing.

Send all those opposed to the sequel thread to any of my comments/forum posts, and leave their negakarma there instead. It doesn't bother me. Until I can cash in my kramas for cookies, I don't see the point to the system.

Well, to much negative karma and the post gets buried. It's kinda like that with the main pages as well since we do that to anyone who comes on the page and starts trouble.

Hey guys. I've got a little proposition that you might be interested in.

At the moment, I'm scetching an "epic" A3 size black and white pony picture. On the foreground, there are three ponies. Trixie, Twilight, and Rainbow Dash (as a team), and far on the background, there's this huuuge monster thingy (kinda like this one, but better).

Now the thing is, since it's A3 in size, I can add quite a bit of detail and stuff, and for example, Trixie has got an elder sign tattoo, and a hairpin.

So if you've got some cool ideas for detail, that you'd like to see on the finished pic, now's your chance. If it's interesting enough, I can still add it to the picture, before I'll trace it to the final paper.

But as for ideas. Maybe a scared and running Fluttershy in the background together with some bunnies (including a pimped out bunny that is me). Applejack guiding Applebloom to safety or something. Random Derpy/Luna somewhere in the sky.

The scene is set on a mountaintop, so there is not much space for action, and the furthest piece of land downhill is so far away, that you couldn't see a character at that distance.

I though about adding Celestia or Luna battle the monster far at the distance, but they would be too small to be seen. The monster towers around 45 degrees above the horizon, and is at least at the distance of 15 kilometers.

Good detail ideas, and small items and accessories would be somewhat ideal. I could have just one extra character gazing upon the scene, but even that character would be only half visible. The character are supposed to be a bit older than in the actual show, so I though about adding a grown up Sweetie Belle, but then I just gave up that idea…
