I didn't know at first what this new one was going to be like. I thought it would at least have some substance, since the previous ones made were a B-movie and a set of 2 that were too silly and didn't have enough action. But it turned out this new one was the worse one of all. I'm now beginning to think, is there even a chance for this franchise to have a good movie? Considering that there's now been 3 sets of film adaptations, there won't be another reboot, but what was being done wrong in these films?

Will the Fantastic 4 ever get a good movie?

Yeah, it's called The Incredibles
I understand the importance of the Fantastic 4 to the history of the comics industry, but I'm starting to wonder: are they even a good team? I mean, I've never actually read or watched anything starring them that I actually liked. Maybe they only worked during the brief time in the sixties when they appeared. I've heard one of the problems with being an innovator is that future generations will regard your work as amateurish. There's holes in that theory, but maybe it's right this time.

Yes, they are a great team.
Here's the problem with the Fantastic Four to put into films is the films run length. You can't really take any definitive stories like another character (or you would need the rights to other characters not owned by FOX like Inhumans etc).
Fantastic Four usually have great runs. Issue to issue they are good. One issue may have a fun adventure in space and the next is about the wrecking crew trying to steal from the Baxter Building.
The F4 also make great supporting roles in other books. They have a very strong influence on literally everything in the entire Marvel universe. Someone needs help, they call an F4 member or all of them.
The main problem is that they just wouldn't really work as a movie. Most of their stories are not viable for widescreen audiences, either they're too short or too steeped in contuinity. I think they could pull off a show a lot better. It also really helps if they have other heroes to work with.

@Spider-Byte
So the only way to make it work would be to incorporate them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they could put to good use.
To bad thats never gonna happen.

Well unless, like Spider-Byte said, it could be made into a series. Most likely a Netflix series, like Daredevil. Apparently those series are also considered part of the MCU, so that's how they would be able to fit it in.

Even if there was a series it couldn't be part of the MCU because Fox owns it, and they're holding on to all the marvel titles they have for as long as possible.

I only know of the '05 adaptation and the '15 adaptation, unless you're separating Fantastic 4 ('05) and Rise of the Silver Surfer. I don't think it is a problem in the concept itself, but rather its execution.
FF05 – Simple origin story with overly campy dialogue and a lack of any real action
RSS – Terrible plot holes and contrivances (lol sure let's trust a guy who tried to murder us all and destroy half of New York)
But perhaps the most informing is how badly the new one failed, as it took the most liberties on the characters and their origins. They aren't adults, Johnny's ethnicity is different (which does effect his relationship to Susan differently than if he was born from the same parents), and Doom is something else entirely. I think perhaps someone in the creation process thought "oh Fantastic 4 is just a dumb concept from the get-go, if we hack it up it'll probably do better!" but clearly that is not the case.
I think the strong point of the Fantastic 4 is their relationship to each other. All of them have some strong relationship that binds them to another, and it isn't the common one of being on a team. I think that's what makes it interesting, it's how you can have a section with Susan and Ben and it'll be just as interesting as a section with Susan and Johnny. The new movie didn't get that and suffered as a result, the older adaptations did it rather in a rather sloppy, campy way and got off with higher ratings.

I'm including the '94 Roger Corman B-movie that was never released to theaters, FF05 and RSS I'm counting as one, and of course the newest one. That makes three.
I actually really like the concept of the fantastic four and their relations as well as the fact that they have really good characters tied to them like Doom, the Skrulls, and Silver Surfer. Of course it can be good, but these movies are not. Maybe Spider's right and what we need is a show. I just know they won't reach their potential anytime soon since Fox probably will never let them go, hell the sequel is still going to come out from what I've heard. I can't believe that they can just bomb harder than any superhero movie released this millenium and worse than any marvel movie period and still keep on going.
From what I've heard the actors of the new movie were so embarassed by it they haven't even seen the finished product yet.
