One year ago, on this day, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was released in North America! It was the first SpongeBob movie released in a decade and it was well worth the wait from not just my perspective, but others too. Since it's release, the movie received fairly positive reviews from critics and fans alike and it managed to outgross the original film, but somehow, it's not talked about often on the internet, especially on this site, and I don't understand why people ignore such a gem like this.
What do y'all think of the movie? Do you think it's good or bad? Do you think it's overlooked? Do you think it was the thing that fixed the franchise?
(I really hope I'm not the only one celebrating this.)

Spongebob was supposed to die after the first Spongebob Squarepants movie. Everything else after that seems like a lie to me.
They hit the right amount of goofiness and comedy.

Sure, most of the other stuff was garbage after the first, but one, not all of it was and two, even if it's bad it still has a big following. (Albeit because of nostalgia & other stuff.) If SpongeBob was ditched, I'm sure that Nickelodeon would lose a whole lot of fans & viewers. SpongeBob's practically become the Mario of Nick.

I finished watching the Sponge Out Of Water movie just five minutes ago. Can confirm it wasn't nearly as good as the original Spongebob Squarepants Movie. Sometimes good jokes, but mostly meh slapstick. Maybe it's because of Sonic Boom but my standards for slapstick are significantly higher than what I received. The plot was lame, they never showed what the formula was which was lame since it was a core plot point and people for years have been very mildly curious. Also used Time Travel which was a pretty weak premise since it's been done into the ground, though I'll give them credit for making the time travel sequences fun-looking.
This movie gets a meh/10.
