Does it ever show Luke Cages back story in the netflix series? Or was I suppose to watch Jessica Jones first to get his story?

There's a teeny bit of back-story involving his wife and how she died (not a spoiler they make it known extremely early in both shows his wife died) but it's not too important. You could always look it up or I could tell you. But his actual back-story like origins of his motives and powers are in Luke Cage. You're fine. You just might not get some cool references. I do recommend seeing JJ at some point though that show is godly it might even be my favorite of the 3 Marvel Netflix shows. But all of them are top-tier, including Luke Cage.

But are they ever going to answer what happened to him in jail in the show? It was really jarring to me that they pretty much skipped over it with a few interactions in the back of the barber shop.
Yeah there's an entire episode that's just a flashback to him in jail. That's the backstory.

Alright cool thanks. I guess its like dare devil where they don't explain his powers until later
Im glad you replied. I was so close to dropping the show 2 episodes in but I just finished it. Holy fuck that was so good.
Exactly! I loved it so much every single Marvel show so far has been fantastic especially the Netflix ones. Luke Cage wasn't my favorite of the 3 but it's still godly. They're all basically close together in my book all of them have their own styles and advantages.

Id also put them extremely close together. It got me so pumped about the defenders more so than the avengers.
