"Sources said that Cameron, whose copyright reversion happens 35 years after the release of the 1984 classic, is in early talks with Deadpool director and VFX wiz Tim Miller to direct a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales.

David Ellison, whose Skydance co-financed Terminator Genisys, is bankrolling an exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science fiction authors to find the movie creatively. Ellison still holds many Terminator rights, after his 2013 acquisition from sister and Annapurna principal Megan Ellison. She bought them in 2011 at Cannes for $20 million."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the last Terminator movie essentially retcon the entire franchise?
I mean, I'm with Jon Bovi on the whole "Terminator is just a 2 movie series" (same feelings regarding the Alien series [though I'm optimistically cautious on the new movie please don't suck]) so I could care less what the rest of the movies do

Yes. Gensys did a poorly received retcon,

A big Terminator fan, but overall I respect Cameron body of work more than I enjoy his movies.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of his return to the franchise after three poorly received movies. The Terminator universe is in such a mess I don't know the opportunity is for Cameron to move the series forward without completely ignoring everything post T-2.

For me Terminator ended with T2, and it should've stayed that way.

But hey if they can actually make a good Terminator movie again I'm all for it

It's been a long while, but wasn't T3 decent? I'd at least call it a complete trilogy and disregard the others.

Regardless of how it was initially received, T3 hasn't aged well. The current consensus seems to be it isn't that good. Personally, I've never hated it. It's not as good as the first two movies, but I never understood the negativity towards it.

As to Cameron giving his verbal approval, I don't think it means much. He was likely shilling for it, as I remember he did a couple positive interviews. It always struck me as a "Yeah, I'll give you guys a plug between breaks on the obsessing over the 15 Avatar sequels."

As I said, I'm not a huge fan of Cameron, but I respect someone who's managed to direct the two highest grossing films of all time.
