Movies or shows you initially disliked only to end up liking later

Summer Camp Island

Pilot left me with really mixed feelings though leaning more towards "eh I don't like it." Still decided to give the show proper a look later on after hearing others say the show is actually good and yeah I gotta say the show proper is better than the pilot. I find the characters likable, the atmosphere of the show tends to be pretty darn cozy, and I just really like they took the whole "magical island" concept to a logical extreme of all the island's inhabitants either being sentient inanimate objects (though they're actually animate in this show, like pretty much literally everything on the island has a face and voice) and a mix of friendly and not so friendly monsters.

The Lord of the Rings series

When I was a kid, I tried my best to get invested because everyone else was; while Fellowship of the Ring was able to interest me for a moment, I would eventually tire out on it and realize that I was only halfway through the movie. In a nutshell, the movies were just too complicated and incredibly long for me to handle back then. As I got older I did appreciate them more since I understand things more, though the major thing in the films that I really don't care for is when they would get too artsy and slow, particularly the scenes with Arwen and the whole scene in Two Towers with the "passing of the elves" or whatever it was called.

I know you won't believe this, but I was already writing my comment about the Lord of the Rings. lol
I watched the first half of Fellowship of the Ring around 6 times before I actually got through the first movie. That day, I watched them all, honestly. I tend to binge watch things like that.

I'm glad I saved it for later.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

I was initially put off from the show's utter randomness and stupidity until I gave it a watch and found the charm in said traits. Even South Park wasn't as surreal at the time, so the ATHF's humor took me awhile to fully enjoy.

ed, edd and eddy – the show looked rather gross to me, but once i watched an episode, i thought it was actually good

dbz – i used to skip it during my morning cartoons (it was a block of sailor moon, dbz then pokemon). during the time dbz was airing, i just watched music videos on vh1 or mtv. one day, they had some other shit on, and since there was nothing else to watch, i begrudgingly decided to watch it. i was lucky to catch it on the first episodes and thought it was pretty neat.

Yeah that's exactly the same for me. Except I checked the show out to see the massive trainwreck it should have been. I was a bit taken aback from it actually being good, given the pilot. Apparently my experience with the show was quite common back in 2018, as a lot of people expected a shitshow of a cartoon.

Star Wars

I think I first saw episode 4 or 5 on TV one day. Thought it looked dumb and boring.
Guess who spent a good 2 or 3 years of his life obsessed with it later

DBZ
I wasn't (still am not) a fan of martial arts/fist-fighting type stuff. Would rather see guns or swords or basically anything else. Thought this looked dumb as well. Only reason I checked it out was because my brother was watching it at the time.
