31 years ago, it all started in with a collaboration between Colourbox and A.R. Kane (Inventor of Dream Pop) encouraged by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of 4AD. The two groups both have in common with their emphasis on music sampling and they decide to take a bet on making a hit single. And that song is Pump Up The Volume by M|A|R|R|S.
A few singles had followed contributing to the micro-genre trend of Sample-heavy House music, which might be a sub-genre of Acid House, until it burnt out due to the recycling of the same samples. But here are the rest of the three that exemplifies this micro-genre.
Now it’s your turn to think of an existing song that might related to these songs above in terms of reliance on sampling. It can be discovered from YouTube to Soundcloud. Sources that were sampled are not limited to vinyls and home recordings, it can be also videos. Mashups never count, which it can be hard for you to share one mashup that contains soundbites and snippets from several sources, but I would like to see you try.
And now, here’s and cheers to the slow but great movement of rhythmic sampling!
