About image and gallery views: Is this normal..?

For starters, apologies if this is the wrong forum for this thread.

As for the topic: I noticed something that struck me as odd… And it is this:

The timing of both images is the same.

So the thing is, as you can see, the image on the Hentai Quotes gallery has slightly over 2.000 views, all from today, but, from the top 8 most viewed galleries today, the 8th one is the one for 2016's presidential elections… with about 1.700 views… which is LESS than 2.000. So, by definition, would that not mean that, just with that image alone, Hentai Quotes should be the one in 8th place or, at least, register more views than 2016 elections gallery..? Or am I missing something here..?

I was thinking that, perhaps, image views are registered from everyone, account or no account, whereas GALLERY views only register those of logged-in users. Or maybe, image views count repeated views, whereas gallery views only count one view per IP address, but that sounds too complicated to be true. OR MAYBE, the daily timer resets at a different time of the day for gallery views compared to image views. Or even simplier: gallery views update slower than image views. If it is any of the 4, that explains it, but if not… then this should be mathematically impossible.

Thoughts..?

I'm going to move this to Report Problems because the admins usually only read threads in that board, and I doubt anyone else would be able to answer your question definitively.

I've always thought of the gallery view count as tracking people who look at… well, the gallery. There are plenty of ways of accessing images directly without going through the gallery first – direct links, through the trending page, through the front page, et cetera. This is not an informed answer, though.

I was thinking about posting on that forum at first, but I am not sure if there is a problem to report, and I do not wish to waste Staff's time if there is none. I also gambled the possibility of me just being ignorant of something commonly known, but I see that is not the case.

I see, then. This is no pressing matter or anything; it simply got me curious.

The image has a set of views

the Gallery has another set of views

A view at an image that is in a gallery is not a view at the gallery.

If you get to the image through newest uploaded images, trending images or just being linked to the photo or any number of other ways of fallowing a link to it without opening the gallery you increase the number of views the image has.
