Welp, looks like that's settled! 10/10 thread guys, 10/10. Exit's to the left. Remember to meme responsibly, and we'll see ya next time!
And to reply to your question OP, yes. It seems different enough to be more than just some other Christian denomination.
Same shit different prophets.
Mormons have always been their own religion, separate from Christianity. It amazes me people still think that Mormons are Christians.
Just because Jesus Christ is in the Book of Mormon doesn't mean they view him as their Lord and Savior. By that logic, Muslims must also view Jesus Christ as their Messiah since he's in the Qur'an.
They follow the Bible too, ya know.
They believe that he's the literal Son of God and believe he's the Savior.
Even though their beliefs are very different, I still personally think of them as Christians.
(I'm an atheist living in Utah, btw.)
They're also technically polytheistic because they believe that every man becomes a god and is granted his own planet after he dies. God's planet is Earth, Jesus's planet is Kolob, etc…
Before we can answer that question, we have to define "Christianity" first.

Mormon is to Christianity as Islam is to Christianity, right?
Okay, okay guise guise guise.
Mormon here.
Mormons have long considered themSELVES Christian. For what it's worth.

Am Mormon, can disconfirm.
I don't mean to give you grief, but Mormons DO view Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We hold a Sacrament of the Holy Supper every week to commemorate his death and atonement for sin. If I may quote the Book of Mormon:
And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. 2 Nephi 25:26
Now, I personally think that while Mormons are Christian, they are not in any way Protestant.
It comes down to origins. Catholicism has its roots in Rome, during the first century AD (CE). Protestants churches either broke off from the Catholic Church (Martin Luther, etc. etc.), or separated themselves from another protestant church. Which Mormons also didn't really do. This is how Mormons view it in any case, but I think that most would agree that Mormonism departs significantly from Protestantism.
If you need a word that means people who accept the Biblical Christ Jesus as a personal Savior, may I suggest the name "Christian" and may I humbly submit that Mormons fit that cloth.
HOWEVER, if you want your term to exclude certain "heretical" theologies (modern prophets, apotheosis, etc) then may I suggest you use the term "Protestant" because it usually fits the mold.
I think that academics and theologians would do well to adopt this nomenclature, as it is descriptive and non-redundant.
