I read the blog below which makes claims that big data is being mined by AI to identify key people who are vulnerable to certain messages. Does this threaten democracy, or is just an evolution of democracy?

Yup. The internet is now a key realm in propaganda and misinformation.

Far from making us all more knowledgeable, it's had the reverse effect…

In my eyes, "weaponized memes" is a meme in itself and I expect it to stay like that, which means that it's really not serious. As for the internet and datamining, that is an exchange that we make to have the pleasure of having the world on your fingertips.
