4 character minimum for comments

Does it really serve any purpose? I assume it's meant to prevent people from making pointless empty comments (or "lol"), but it's rendered useless by the fact that you can just insert empty spaces until you're over the minimum. No need to even use the whitespace character or anything; the spacebar does the trick.

Maybe change it so spaces don't count as characters?

Maybe it has to do with the spambots posting blank comments or maybe for mistakenly clicking the post button before filling the field or don't realising that the field is not filled and clicking submit again. If blank comments are intentional then alright, you can make it anyways. I don't understand why making blank comments or short sentences like "lol" should be easy.
