Popular Games You Don't Really Like

It could be a downright hatred of these games/game series, or in my case, it could just be that you don't really like it yourself but you could understand why other people do.

My Personal Examples:

Pokemon: I can completely understand why people like these games, I just don't. One of the things I don't like is that the games are too "happy" if you know what I mean. Everyone's so damn happy all the time and everything's always perfect aside from a few teams who occasionally steal Pokemon. Call me a hypocrite since I like Mario and Kirby, but there's something about Pokemon's perfect world that I don't like. Also, I don't like the battle system. The mostly static battle screens where you just select an attack and watch stuff happen just isn't for me. This actually rules out most turn-based RPGs for me though, so it's not just Pokemon. It's boring to me and I don't like grinding for levels which Pokemon has you do. Also, I don't like the fact that there's no real goal. I've never gotten very far in a Pokemon game or even ever completed one for these reasons.

Earthbound: Earthbound is the only one out of the three I've actually played (which is true for lots of people), and I can see why people enjoy it, it's just not for me. Lots of people like it for its weird, unique style. To me, the game isn't good weird, it's just weird weird. Not my taste. The art-style bugs me for some reason too. Something about the sprites just visually bothers me. Also, just like Pokemon, don't like the combat system. Earthbound's is even more dull to me because you can't see shit. You just have to guess what's happening.

Pikmin:

I actually want to like these games, but they're too stressful for me. I play games to relax, not get more tense. You have so many responsibilities to balance in these games all at the same time (sort of like real life, heehee) and when it all comes crashing down it gets stressful as hell. The fact that the Pikmin are so damn cute and lovable makes it that much worse when you just watch all of them die right in front of you while you can do nothing. It's more my emotional fiber that's the problem in this case than the game itself.

Since it's a major topic today, Xenoblade Chronicles
I hate the battle system, the characters are annoying, the voice acting is horrible, No one shuts up, and it looks butt-ugly. The music's nice though.

Oh boy, my list is a mile high. Should I tell what they are and get downvoted to hell? :3

Go the hell ahead, as long as you make it clear it's just coming from you and you don't expect everyone to treat your opinion like it's gospel. This is the forums, downvoting isn't too big of an issue. Just don't be a prick about it. Go ahead and criticize whatever the hell you want.

The Grand Theft Auto series.

I'm one of those people that believe that it's those games that are diminishing the morality of today's youth.

Is that the only reason you don't like the game? That's a pretty dub reason if that's it. Anything else or just that? Don't hate the game itself if that's your problem.

Also, yeah, I sort of agree. This game above so many others in the hands of a child who has yet discovered most of what is right and wrong and what is reality and what is fantasy, can be dangerous. I don't think only adults should play the game or anything. Some teenagers if mature enough can handle the game in my opinion, but I think it's ridiculous when little children play them. It's pretty dumb on the parents' part.

So, have any criticisms of the game itself like gameplay-wise or something or not?

Yeah, open world games are not for me. I like being told what to do all throughout the game.

1. GTA as a whole. (The only exception being The Lost and The Damned, which is part of why i hate GTAV)
I hated the missions that they gave you. The characters were never likable save for a few, the driving mechanics (especially IV) was terrible. The stories were not really interesting.
Yeah, i believe GTA is overrated as fuck.

2. Morrowind
Broken gameplay and mechanics, and some of the worst quests i've ever played in any elder scrolls game. Yet, the fanbase won't stop praising it as the best Elder scrolls game.

3. Fable 1
My opinion might change on this one, since i'm planning to get the Anniversary edition as a comparison. But battles can get uneven and felt cheated, some gameplay quests are just BS, and the way people interact in the game just feels too goofy for me.

4. Rogue Legacy
Yeah, Rouge RPGs are not my cup of coffee

5. Fallout New Vegas
I enjoyed Fallout 3, but New Vegas just felt too dry for me. Quests that are even more broken than 3, uninteresting story, no likable characters, and the fact it doesn't feel like a wasteland survival game anymore makes me rather turned off.

6. Team Fortress 2 or any multiplayer FPS games
I'm no good at it.

7. Bioshock 1
The world feels way too empty for me. The fact that you only interacting through a radio further emphasize it. Sorry, but the so called saviour of FPS is a no-no for me. I'll just stick Infinite (which the fanbase will hate me for)

Skyrim
Not as fun as Fallout.

FIFA
I don't like sports games in general.

Mario games
Except for Kart and maybe Smash.

Well, it's by a loose definition of "don't really like," but I'll put it here since it's close enough:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed OOT, but I still like it far less than its rabid fans do. It's a good game, but it's not a fucking masterpiece and it's far from the best game I've ever played. It's got predictable and sometimes repetitive gameplay (got an item recently? guess what's be used for all of the next dungeon and what its boss's weakness will be), a cliche, barebones plot, and a disappointing finale.

Pokemon Series: Plain and simple i don't see the appeal of the series and i don't see how anyone could.

The Legend of Zelda Series: Again I can't find any enjoyable aspect of this game, watching play throughs of it just comes off as really boring.

None: There's a reason why they're popular, Most people just focus on the negative aspects of the game while I focus on the positive aspects of the game. It's one of the reasons why I rarely hate videogames, even some of the games that doesn't recieve much praise.

Funny enough I'm actually like that. You can't really tell because of how I made this thread but I'm ridiculously lenient on liking games most of the time. Some people are super strict and hate nearly everything that's not a masterpiece but as long as a game's not terrible I can enjoy it. For an example of how low my standards are, I like Shadow the Hedgehog.

Sonic Colors (Wii): People praised this game like it was the best sonic game since SA2. So after a while, I decided to play it, and to be honest… I liked Sonic Unleashed better than it. The areas in Sonic Unleashed felt open and vibrant, whereas in Colors, areas were very tight and closed off. In Sonic Unleashed there was a focus on platforming and speed in day levels n both 2D and 3D sections, but in colors they split it up into 2 categories… 3D sections where there is little if not any platforming involved, and 2D sections that ONLY focus on platforming. Honestly, the 2D sections were the werehog of this game… They broke the pace of the game, certain sections were very repetitive and they were just all in all boring. This game also included Wisps that can give sonic different abilities to progress through the level, some of them were cool like the laser or the rocket, but a lot of them were boring and overall pace breakers (coughs) hover (coughs). Also, they messed up the thing that didn't need to be fixed… Boosting. In unleashed, all you needed was some rings and you were good to go, but in colors you can't boost unless you line up your path just right to hit a small container of wisps. All in all, Colors was an okay game that just felt weird to me. I'm sure its a good game, but I can't enjoy it as much as I want to.

Any PvP-focused game

Special mention goes to first-person games like Chivalry and TF2, as well as 1-on-1 fighters in the vein of Street Fighter and BlazBlue. My lack of patience, along with my low frustration threshold and nasty temper tend to make these end badly no matter how many times I try them. (And I keep doing it for some reason.)

The horror genre as a whole

I like sleeping. These games tend to inhibit that. Unfortunately, horror games are often very atmospheric, and I love atmosphere in games. As long as the jump scares can be kept on a leash, I can handle most stuff, but that seems to be the go-to cheap trick. (That said, I'm fucking loving Residen Evil 2 now that I've finally gotten around to playing it. Most of its jumps are very predictable.)

Morrowind

I love The Elder Scrolls games, I love lots of little things about Morrowind, I just don't actually like it as a game. Its gameplay has aged terribly, it looks like ass out of the box (which can be dramatically changed, mind you.) All combat is based on dice rolls, getting anywhere takes forever, it's an exercise in constant inconvenience instead of the fun, free-roaming adventure I associate these sorts of games with.

DayZ

Just looking at it from afar, I can tell this is the antithesis of what I want a game to be. It's a griefer's playground with brutal, unforgiving gameplay, a horrid learning curve, and the nitpicky "physical needs" mechanics I utterly despise in games. I don't want to worry about whether my hypermetabolic protagonist has eaten in the last 3 minutes. Let me not worry about shit for a while and zone out in my game world.

Minecraft

It had its appeal for a while. I love procedurally-generated worlds and dungeons, but I don't want to create all the content of my game. If I want to make a little house in a game that allows me to do so, that should be my perogative, and it should be pretty easy. Minecraft pretty much demands you do it piece by miniscule piece. You have to worry about your shit breaking constantly and Hey! It's our old pal the hunger meter again!

I enjoy Terraria and Starbound infinitely more because there's much clearer-cut goals and gameplay than Minecraft, which seems to be little more than a toolset meant for building a game on top of.

Minecraft: I just…couldn't bother about this game. I do enjoy sandbox game and especially construction games. But to me the game needs a "theme" so I can concentrate in doing something in that game. In Minecraft you can do some many things if your mind let you……And just can't. I don't have the imagination of for that matter the time to do something in it.

The original Legend of Zelda.
I really try to like it, but I hate it when a game's secrets consist of bombing random walls or burning random bushes without any indication where those places are. Shame, because the rest of the franchise is A+ material.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.
I hate blaming things on nostalgia; but people, these two games suck, admit it, and you only enjoy them because you played them back in the day.

Darksiders II.
Tries to be Zelda, and looks awesome (plus has a very cool protagonist), but fails in the level design department.

@TripleA
You don't see the appeal of having a whole bunch of species to pick from to form a team?
Or do you not see the point of turn-based RPGs?
And Zelda IS boring to watch, but try a Link to the Past. Nobody can hate that game, trust me.

Pokemon and MMOs
Same sentiments as what others have mentioned here.

Re: MMO, I don't have someone to play with most of the time :( and I don't find them as appealing no matter how many times I try to play them.

I don't know about that. I think it'd be good to try both 2D and 3D Zelda's to see what he'd like more. Also, not everyone likes LttP. I don't really hate it, but it's not my favorite. Also, many games are boring to watch if they involve exploration. If it's not a straightforward action-packed platformer or FPS or something watching the game is pretty dull unless it has good commentary. Metroid is also like that, but if you try playing the games they can be great.

Let's be serious, though.

Assassin's Creed
Hoo boy, do I hate this series. Babby's first stealth game that took 7 installments to add a fucking crouch button. Terrible combat, repetitive side missions, hold down a button to platform, and the fourth game felt the need to spell the subtitles in old English. Why? That's just confusing.
The only good thing about this series in recent years is IV's ship combat. Ubisoft should just make a pirate game.

BioShock: Infinite
Pretentious, convoluted bullshit (coming from a guy who likes Metal Gear) wrapped around uninteresting, almost comically generic shooting and the terrible waifubait character of Elizabeth. Flimsii explains it better than I ever could.

Every MOBA Ever
I shouldn't have to go into detail on this one, right?

Batman: Arkham
It's Assassin's Creed, but with Batman and somewhat better writing. Unfortunately, that's not enough to save it from being bad.

Pretty much every Grand Theft Auto before IV
Maybe they've just aged poorly, but I don't understand the love for the series before the fourth installment. The shooting is terrible and the driving is terrible. I like IV and V because they have much, much better third-person shooter style combat and much better vehicle physics.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it here.

Metal Gear Solid
Just awful writing. This combined with sub par stealth to avoid getting into the horrendous combat.

Bastion
Oh boy. I regret buying this game. The narrator is just irritating and I wanted him to just shut up. I don't like the world just forming in front of you, it should just be there. The combat is OK but nothing interesting. The art is not really anything spectacular either.

3D Legend of Zelda
I like the top down games because they give you this freedom of basically going where you want. It's also more simple and enjoyable for me because I don't care about the lore of Zelda. Also what's up with the timeline? This is the one on my list which I absolutely can't stand.

The Witcher
I just found it extremely boring.

Any Mario game past Mario Kart 7
I'm sorry guys, but they just don't give me any interest. Mario KArt 8 looks WAAAY to similar to Mario Kart 7. SM3DW looks okay, but I'm still a little skeptical about it. Don't even get me started on NSMBU! Sheesh… Mario Maker and Mario Party 10 look good. The former makes me want to buy a Wii U.
Donkey Kong
I'm talking about the original arcade version. It's fun, I'll admit, but it's really hard. I'm okay with hard games (Some of my favorites, such as Terarria or PvZ2 are hard.), but it's TOO hard. if it was a tad bit easier, I'd like it a lot.

Well, just wanted to correct previous post.
After playing through the Anniversary edition of Fable, i finally understand why people really like the game back in 2005. Though some aspects are rather irritating, the game is really exciting to play in general. Combat is both simple and challenging to play, the world is feels very alive kinda like The Elder Scrolls 4 and 5, and the story is pretty interesting to follow.

YOUR HEALTH IS LOW. DO YOU HAVE ANY POTIONS OR FOOD.

GET YOUR COMBAT MULTIPLIER HIGHER.

Street Fighter
Number one, I kinda suck at it, and Number 2, the reason I suck is because of how primitive the mechanics feel. I know it is the creator of the combo system… but seriously. It is so boring to me…
Madden NFL
I could just go outside and play football. Without constant glitches.
Horror Games in their entirety
I don't hate them. I just like to sleep without some creepy bullshit in my mind. This is the driving reason why I'm annoyed at the abundance of FnaF on this site all of the sudden. I'D LIKE TO SLEEP, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, KYM.
FPS Games as well
Self-explanatory. Shitty playerbase being the driving factor.
Grand Theft Auto
Again, I don't hate it. But the sheer fact that it is pretty much shilled to be the ultimate game when its just a gangster movie with a message made playable is what I'm really ticked about. That said, I'd like to play GTA V. But not before I form my own opinion about the series. I'm just not really as interested.
Elder Scrolls
The setting is the biggest problem I have. The moment I saw how bare-bones and ancient it was, I knew I couldn't get immersed. I cannot stand an overly bleak or medieval setting. I barely made it through a few Final Fantasy games with this in mind. But this… its… ugh.

Play Oblivion, it's the most light hearted toned Elder Scrolls game. It almost feels like being in a fairy tale. Very contrasting compared to Morrowind and Skyrim.

Goldeneye
I understand that it was "revolutionary" back in the day, but it has practically aged like milk. With the FPS genre being so improved nowadays, there's no real reason to ever go back to Goldeneye, unless you like getting frustrated over the controls.

Minecraft. I used to enjoy it until it started getting boring for my tastes. I had a world where I made a Nether Portal, put a Diamond pickaxe in a frame above my bed, found mushroom trees, rode a horse to the nether, etc. I don't know what happened to Minecraft afterward…

Flappy Bird: I play it from time to time, but I can't properly enjoy it because it's just another generic mobile game. Pong has more appeal to it, IMO. However, I am impressed that the pipes are randomly generated, and that someone recreated Flappy BIrd in Super Mario World.

New Super Mario Bros. Series.
The first two were good, but the rest looked too uninspired to me.

WoW/most MMOs
The combat feels too simplistic, and I had more fun trying to scale a mountain than actually playing the game. Unfortunately, most of the MMOs I've seen copy the formula.

Battlefield
It's not bad by any means, but it just feels too slow for me. I like fast paced action in FPS multiplayer.

TLoZ: Majora's Mask
I feel horrible for saying this, but this game is my least favorite in the series. It just feels too frustrating and uninspired for me. I tried to like it, but I just couldn't bring myself to. I still want to beat it though.

Roblox
Need I say more?

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this series, but this game felt like it was missing something, compared to the other two. I honestly hate to say this and sound like a troll, but I actually think I enjoyed Other M more than this. It does have an amazing soundtrack though.

CoD Ghosts
No… just… no…

Pretty much any classic style fighthing game (smash bros not included because it's not classic).
I simply find them frustrating because you gotta memorize a shitload of movements if you want to be somewhat good, and then If you wanna use more than one character, you gotta learn another shitload of complicated commands.

I don't like first-person shooters. The majority of them strike me as being all the same and mindlessly violent (admittedly, this isn't an entirely educated opinion, as I haven't played many of them and never fully watched any playthroughs). I think my only exceptions are Portal and Metroid Prime.

Also, I'm not big on 1-vs-1 2D fighters. I mean games in the style of Street Fighter and Tekken. They just seem boring. I make an exception for Blazblue, but I'm in it more for the story than the actual gameplay.

Let the shitstrom a roll

Destiny
If I wanted to play a game lime that, i would just play Borderlands, because it feels almost exactly like that except with obvious differences.
Minecraft
The only time I found that game fun is when I'm bored the hell out of or my friends make me because my only friend on PC has friends that aren't even in middle schools yet and they play it all the goddamned time other than GTA IV
Terraria
Shit, I liked that game till my friend never stopped bugging me to play it with him, and now he's thinking of hacking my Xbox and not his for a little experiment he is conducting.
Fable
I just really couldn't get into the storyline is just all, the other parts of the game are good, just the storyline didn't sppeal to me because I guess I don't play games lime that.
Goat Simulator
It's the same random shit over and over again like headbutting people:"Oh he fell unusually, hur hur hur", the goat's head:"It's head looks funny when it's like that, yuk yuk yuk", the tongue: "It can grasp onto anything, har har har". And din't get me satrted on the Flappy Bird easter egg".

Mass Effect
I Don't really see anything special about it.

Minecraft
It's fun at first, but it gets really repetitive and boring really fast.

CoD
Damn kids! Get off my M-rated games! You're ruining the fun!
The only reason I still play it is because Zombies my friends play it.

Grand Theft Auto
I don't have a think for sandbox games…

League of Legends
I'm sorry but I don't like this game! I tried to play it, but when I did, It fucked up my computer!

Most games on the App store
Especially Clash of Clans
"hey guys, my clan is stronger than u's!" "dammit, they kicked me out of the clan!" "hurr hurr, everyone else in my clan is chinese/russian! "fight me, nigga!"
Basically, everyone has it, they talk about it all day, and it gets annoying.
