This thread is dedicated to talking about far cry 4, which is coming out in less than a month. I was wondering what everyone thought about it, because all I've been hearing is negativity about it, like how the season pass is a ripoff, that it's apparently turning into COD, and people saying how terrible it's going to be, even though they have not played it yet. Obviously, im biased towards the side that thinks the game will be really good, but i was wondering what you guys thought of it.

Without commenting on the gameplay (since I haven't played it or even been following that much), I have heard of the season-pass debacle. To put it simply, on-release DLC is bad practice in my books. Its taking away development time from the core game that everyone will experience and essentially saying "Oh you mean you wanted all the stuff we made for release? That'll be $30 extra."

While the game itself may very well be awesome, day 1 DLC is kind of a shitty practice.

FC1 was a gimmicky joke, but fun gimmicky joke. It was amusing to say the least

FC2 felt like serious 3rd world survival training. And I loved it. I thought that FC2 pointed the series in the right direction: about simulating an immersive, realistic, yet dangerous environment and your goal is to simply survive with nothing but a knife and boy-scout skills. It was you vs nature more so than you vs the bad guy. Fantastic

FC3 did some of the above…but kinda of rolled back towards some of the gimmicks of FC1. It had the same survival environment but felt like an arcade again. I still had fun playing FC3, especially since it let you be Rambo more than the other series. But I wished it had more immersion like FC2. Fortunately there's a FC3 mod for that

And now FC4 …well my wish is that it simply takes the best elements from FC2's survival training and FC3's kickassery

I don't know much about the game at this point. Steam doesn't go into too much detail. But it looks like once again you are fighting nature and the 3rd world… and there's no mutants. Good.

Price does seem pretty hefty. But that's why you don't pre-order. Wait for a sale.

It's like Skyrim with guns all over again.

Anyways, the guys at machinima actually got their hands on a demo of the game awhile back. From what they can tell, the game is really no different compared to FC3. It does offer more versatility with its helicopters and such and also it's co-op gameplay on the kyrat itself. But other than that, it doesn't really bring anything new to the series. they said it might as well be Far Cry 3 with Elephants.

FC2 is definitely something. problem is that it's really not a game for everyone. The survival aspects were pretty cool, but the enemy's aggresive behavior and constant respawning can be a complete pain in the ass (especially if your guns suddenly jams). That and the lack of fauna in the enviroment does turn me off.

I could've like Far Cry 2, but the final nail in the coffin for me was really the malaria. I just can't play the game anymore with its many problems, and i thought Far Cry 3 was a vast improvement since it decided to go for a more arcade gameplay which makes it more accessable for everyone to play.
