Competitive Smash scene facing quite a bit of controversy after multiple players come forward about pedophilia and sexual assault happening among competitive players

For once I'm just going to link an entire reddit board because this is basically the biggest news on there right now. One of the first stories to come from this was Puppeh making a post stating that when he was 14 he had sexual relations with Cinnipie, who was 26 at the time. Other people who are being called out for either pedophilia or sexual assault of some kind are Nairo, D1, Keitaro, and MrWizard.

A lot of people are starting to say Nintendo was justified in their original stance to keep themselves separate from the competitive scene, and are now wondering if Nintendo's ever gonna involve themselves in competitive Smash ever again.

One thing that might be a PR nightmare for Nintendo right now is the fact that just last year they did a video highlighting Nairo. I'm almost certain NoA's gonna take down the video sometime soon and no longer involve themselves with guys like Nairo, D1, and MrWizard.

EDIT: Yep looks like NoA did in fact take down the Nairo video on their channel. Directly searching for it no longer causes it to show up, and checking embeds on other sites from months ago gives a "null" message.

Im actually kind of impressed at how fast Nintendo responded. Though I guess in an extreme case like this that's to be more expected.

Why do these things happen?

Crowd a bunch of introverted, attention-starved and vulnerable young people together, bad decisions can be made by people who don't know any better. All it takes is some desperate person to seek out sexual attention and it clouds their judgement to exploit someone else.

It's also noteworthy that the the Smash 4 and Ultimate communities attracts and sees more younger entrants at much larger numbers compared to other competitive video game scenes.
