Nintendo holding a "Treehouse Live" July 10, will focus on The Origami King and reveal a new Wayforward game that's of a "franchise new to Wayforward"

Obviously the big thing a lot of people are wondering about is the Wayforward game. Is Wayforward working with Nintendo on a revival of an old IP? Or is this a third party IP? Given it's specified it's a franchise Wayforward has NOT worked with in the past this means we can rule out stuff like Contra (they made Contra 4 on the DS), Double Dragon (they made Neon), River City (they just put out River City Girls last year), and A Boy and His Blob (an old NES IP that got a surprise revival on the Wii a decade ago and has been ported to a few other platforms since).

I'm seeing some people speculate that if it's a Nintendo IP then people are hoping for something like Metroid (either Metroid 5 or a remake of Fusion) or a revival of Wario Land.

Double post because I can't edit the OP anymore. Nintendo has clarified the Wayforward game they'll be showing off is a third party IP

I think Nintendo quickly took notice of how many people were quick to assume it'd be a Nintendo IP for the Wayforward reveal and wanted to quickly tell people "hold your horses, we're not going to be responsible for ya'll getting overhyped over something we didn't say" (or to put it in a slightly harsh way: "if you guys were seriously expecting Metroid or something then calm the hell down, it's not one of our IPs they're working with, and we're sick of people throwing tantrums over something that was never promised to begin with because you MFers can't hype responsibly").

So turns out the Wayforward reveal was for an RPG based on Bakugan that looks like it plays much like Pokemon games.

I mean I wasn't sure what to expect anyway but still that feels like an odd choice of reveal, mainly because I didn't even know Bakugan was still a thing. Guess better to reveal it here than during an eventual Direct, less chance of high amounts of vitriol.

This jingle is how I felt when the reveal hit.

Ignoring the disappointment from the hype, the game looked like there's not a lot of love behind it. Like it's just another paycheck. The gameplay didn't look all that fun either.

It really reminds me of Little Town Hero, a game that had a lot of hype and mystery about it but turned out to be a rather cheap-looking RPG with an unfun battle system.

Honestly I just ignore the livechat during anything like this because it always becomes more toxic than Chernobyl regardless of what's going on.

Eh thing is this ain't even new for Wayforward. They often do these low budget licensed games on the side to help keep their devs paid and help fund their "true passion" projects like Shantae and such. Like back when Shantae 1 released on GBC they also did a Scorpion King game at the same time to help pay the bills (they also did games for properties like Shrek and Hotel Transylvania).

Now sure I don't think this was really worth pre-announcing like it could be something interesting though. At the very least hey better to announce this now than during a Direct.

I think the real question of all this is "how does nintendo decides what needs a Threehouse or Direct"? Which is a question that that could also be applied to Sony and Microsoft. Not even if this was Wayforward own channel it would make sense to build any hype around it, Bakugan is a franchise that died TWICE due to lack of audience

I wonder why Nintendo bothers with a live chat, half of it is people asking for Smash and the other half does the same, but ironically xdddd
