Ubisoft under fire: "Women don't sell"

This is on the news today:

French game publisher Ubisoft is facing criticism after an in-depth report into workplace culture alleged the company repeatedly mishandled abuse and sexual misconduct claims. The report comes after three executives stepped down earlier in July amid toxic workplace claims. Bloomberg writer Jason Schreier also reported that Ubisoft rejected Kassandra as the sole female lead in game Assassin's Creed Odyssey because "women don't sell." Ubisoft has not commented on the story.

I believe the correction to Ubisoft is this. Woke type women don't sell. If they make woke type female characters that panders to social justice related movements (Examples: TLOU2, Dishonored 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, etc.) while boot-licking woke type feminists, then yes, these type of women won't sell. My advice to Ubisoft: Just make a good female character without the pandering and wokeness. I can list a bunch of good female protagonists.

I think your trying to add some person bias/politics into the "women don't sell" line. AAA game makers are just the same as movie producers. They see a trend that makes money, and they follow that formula. Look at the top selling video games of all time. As far as I'm aware, not even a single game on the list has a female character as the main playable character (ignoring the games with a custom character creator) other than the pokemon series.
And if you also notice, they are almost all middle aged white men too.
I'm not much of a gamer, but I can't think of very many high grossing games with a singular main playable character in which that main character wasn't a middle aged white man. I can only think of 2 western games that don't have a middle aged white man as the protagonist; Portal 2 and watch dogs 2

>imagine being so gay you think people won't pay money to see women

Serious comment from here down though, strong protagonists are strong protagonists. Likable heroes are likable heroes. Want a strong, well liked female hero as lead? Write her like a strong, likable male hero… but distinctly female and her own character.

Trust me, nerds love this kind of thing.

No. This is not about "Wokeness". This has been an ongoing thing at Ubisoft to the point where I genuinely said to myself:

"Didn't we already talk about this before? Is this new or did everyone dig up the old AC stuff?"

Yes. Yes we have. And once again everyone forgot.
