About

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Jap. チキチキバンバン) is an opening song for the anime series Paripi Koumei, also known as Ya Boy Kongming. The song grew popular among Indonesian internet users, with many of them parodying the dance in the opening song by cosplaying as the titular character.

Origin

Paripi Koumei premiered on April 5th, 2022. On April 12th, 2022, the official YouTube[1] channel of avex pictures uploaded the video of the Paripi Koumei anime opening. In the video, the characters are dancing to the song titled "チキチキバンバン" (Eng. "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang") by QUEENDOM. The video received more than 1.7 million views in one week (shown below).

A few days after the first episode of Paripi Koumei aired, the anime's opening song began growing popular on social media. For example, on April 9th, 2022, Facebook[2] user Unkl Mitball uploaded a mashup between the song and the Indonesian song "Bete" by Manis Manja Group. The video received more than 2,300 reactions and 3,300 shares (shown below, left). On April 11th, 2022, Facebook[3] user Mark Mariano uploaded a video comparing the Zhuge Liang character in Fate/Grand Order to the main character in Paripi Koumei in the "Fate/Grand Order Quartzposting" group. The video received more than 1,800 reactions and 1,600 shares (shown below, right).



On April 8th, 2022, Facebook[4] user Gen uploaded a video comparing the song with the 2013 Hungarian song "Bulikirály" by Jolly. The video received 111 reactions and 344 shares (shown below, left). On April 14th, 2022, Bilibili[5] user 大家是真的黑暗 uploaded a parody version of the music video by using a Tom and Jerry clip. The video received more than 144,000 views in five days. The next day, Facebook[6] user Vinh Sakaki reposted the video. It received 603 reactions and more than 1,700 shares in four days (shown below, right).

Cosplays

The video inspired many Indonesian internet users to cosplay the main character of the series. For example on April 9th, 2022, Facebook[7] user Andika uploaded the first known cosplay of the song, dancing and mimicking Zhuge Liang using his bed sheet. The video received more than 1,600 reactions and 1,800 shares (shown below).



After Andika's video got popular, others followed suit. The same day, Facebook[8] user Ganang uploaded a video more elaborate cosplay. The video received 881 reactions and 846 shares (shown below, left). On April 11th, 2022, Facebook[9] user Zura uploaded a collage video of the cosplays. The video received 937 reactions and more than 1,600 shares (shown below, right).
